It has to be played at the end of the season in which ever hemisphere the 4 nations is being held. That is the only way it will be taken seriously.

Should be scheduled on day when competition isn't high. You had England vs India in the cricket and Carling Cup final all on the same day. Completely drowned out in the media over there.

I'd be disappointed, i reckon Saints v Wigan would get 40,000 plus at the SFS and would attract great media interest and tv ratings etc.

Lewis makes it perfectly clear that the Aussies aren't interested in hosting this game. He even says they thought someone like Brisbane might be up for it but they said no.

What more do you want him to do? He can't force the Aussies to host it.

Also, if you move it to the end of the season it screws up the international season, and that is far more important to the future of our game than the WCC.

How about a statement from tne NRL about whether they want it or not instead of presumption?

Keeping it in England is what is keeping it a contest. English teams are not a drawcard in Aus either.

Is that because of Australian insularity? Enlighten me again what the attendance was between Brisbane and Wigan in 1994 or are you trying to tell me that English clubs aren't a draw in Sydney? No surprise there then.

I was actually at that game, hehe. Come on now, you can't compare the crowd Brisbane would draw compared to other recent champions like St George, Melb or Manly.

Here's a direct quote from Richard Lewis.

"We agreed with the NRL a few years ago that we would have the next few years here and I think the NRL's position is that, unless there is a club in Australia which really thinks they can hold it and make a success of it, then they believe it works better over here," he said.

"Over the years, we thought if a team like Brisbane Broncos got to the final, they might host it but when they got through they didn't think they could host it as successful as we could. So I think it's set to stay in this country.

There is insufficient respect to hold it in Australia at present.

The English have always treated it with the respect it deserves. Though this game should have been scheduled at either Anfield or Old Trafford and properly promoted a la early 1990s internationals.

I have no issue with it staying in the UK. It works, just like the Challenge Cup works there or how State Of Origin works here.

There are a few changes that need to be made to it like the timing of it but in its current format, the UK it belongs.

One thing though, would it be better to have the game before the SL season kicks off?

Yes,

People say the English club has an advantage because they have already played two SL games but i think they are disadvantaged in a big way, the NRL club can focus all off season on the WCC whereas i think the SL club is distracted by playing these early round games.

Would there be any merit in moving it a week or two further forward, so the NRL teams can also claim to be 'match fit'?
