Looks like Mick Fanning can wrap it up if he wins here in Portugal. Surf was garbage yesterday even watching it was tiresome.

Even if he doesn't win here he can tie it up at Pipe.

His heat's coming up soon, Taj just got knocked out of the Title race by Josh Kerr.

If Fanning wins it here he can thank Damien Hardman (the world's worst contest director) for costing Kelly Slater another World Title.

The rort's on! Julian Wilson just got carved up by the judges to keep Joel Parkinson in the race.

Parkinson gets an 8 for an ok barrel and a weak turn on one of the lefts while Wilson does 3 big turns on a right in the last 15 seconds and gets a low 7, just enough to keep Parkinson alive.

Kai Otton pulled it off! He beat Fanning and kept the title race alive! Even though I didn't want Fanning to win that heat, he got heavily underscored on his highest scoring right. There's some shitty judging in this event.

Oh well, over to Jordy and Parko to see what damage they can do from here.

one of my pet hates here is the judging

barrells always score more than other manoeuvres but a barrel is more to do with the wave rather than the surfer, all these guys can get covered up they have probably done it hundreds of time but if the wave doesn't barrel its not a reflection of their surfing

I think the judging system needs an overhaul and we see just way too many 10s

in Portugal we saw 10s given for a small half metre barrels yet other times when riders pulled off countless manoeuvres, they scored lower than a half a second barrel

its just not right
