Firstly, let me say that I don't know where we are in relation to Dykes. I hear he is off to the Sharks and perhaps the deal is already done.
Secondly, the signings we have made are great and our pack and outside backs look promising for '05.
I just think if we are still a chance of keeping Dykes we should be putting everything into it. Obviously he has his detractors and he has been riddled by injury. But the fact remains, when he has played this year, he has been one of our best and gives us so much direction and a great kicking game. He plays in THE KEY position, and there are simply no decent halfbacks left on the market. I know we have Witt and Tim Smith, and even Morris but if one or two of them get hurt we are really struggling. It would be a shame to have a great pack making heaps of metres and good finishers out wide, but not a reliable, experienced "link man" running the show.
Anyway, if he does go I really hope Witt/Smith/Morris can do the job.
It's just my opinion, but I think the re-signing of Dykes is just as crucial as the (hopefully forthcoming) signature of Morrisson.
