We must keep DYKES !!!

Firstly, let me say that I don't know where we are in relation to Dykes. I hear he is off to the Sharks and perhaps the deal is already done.

Secondly, the signings we have made are great and our pack and outside backs look promising for '05.

I just think if we are still a chance of keeping Dykes we should be putting everything into it. Obviously he has his detractors and he has been riddled by injury. But the fact remains, when he has played this year, he has been one of our best and gives us so much direction and a great kicking game. He plays in THE KEY position, and there are simply no decent halfbacks left on the market. I know we have Witt and Tim Smith, and even Morris but if one or two of them get hurt we are really struggling. It would be a shame to have a great pack making heaps of metres and good finishers out wide, but not a reliable, experienced "link man" running the show.

Anyway, if he does go I really hope Witt/Smith/Morris can do the job.
It's just my opinion, but I think the re-signing of Dykes is just as crucial as the (hopefully forthcoming) signature of Morrisson.

we dont need Dykes, but we need to free some mony up,

he has been a waste of money that could have been spent on some one else

I think Witty is a better half back, and we have enough 5/8s

I'm no longer concerned about Dykes being there as I am about Grothe being there!!...I'm very confused about his situation at the moment. :?

Imagine a WITT/DYKES pairing with Witt in the number 7 jersey. It willbe very very intresting to see what Smith does here. I think if Witt plays like he did tonight he will secure the 7.

If Dykes is going to the Sharks, it's very unlikely that he will be back in first grade this season (barring injury/suspension to Witt)... okay, maybe he'll play off the bench.

Actually, I'm very sceptical about any Dykes/Witt combination... they seem to get in each other's way, and we've looked better when only one of them is playing. I would be happy to see Witt/Wags play out the year. This will give Witt valuable experience at halfback, and allow Wags to continue remembering what it is like to be a ballplayer, which will be great if he manages to develop his skills and take them back to lock with him next year.

.... meh. i was so happy when we signed dykes from cronulla, and that was about the last time i smiled when thinking about him in a parra jersey. he's a good player, undoubtidly, but maybe he can be a great player somewhere else. if its true he has an opportunity elsewhere, see ya dykesy!

I'm sure Witt can keep learning off JT. Jason is a much more accomplished half-back than Dykes (as a traditional five-eighth) could ever hope to be.

We've seen the Dykes/Witt halves before - two OK games at the end of last season, haven't really clicked together since that I've seen? I'd more interested in the Morris/Witt combo into the future, and when we signed Riddell, BS inferred that Morris would see action at 5-8 next year.

I'm with Jess on this one. If Dykes wants out, wish him luck, free up the money, and let him on his way.

Sumed up nicley Jess,I agree with you 100%.
I've never been a fan of Dykes since he came to Parramatta and i really hope we release him.

I wanna see John Morris at 5/8th like he was back in 2003...He was killing it there.

2 games isnt exaclty enough time to show off their arsenal of tricks. If it wasnt for the bomb we wouldnt have scored a point saturday. I think Dykes can be our interchangebel hooker who can kick out of dummy half. Morris is a good 5/8 but he doesnt exaclty look happy as he publically said he wants to play starting hooker. But in the trials i saw he was a traditional 5/8 with an improving kicking game.

I'm sure they played more than just those last two games together last year - Witt coming into the side for Green when he was injured, and Dykes playing about every second game from that point on. I meant that they combo only seemed to work twice, whereas Witt and Morris seemed to work better more often in that same period.

I agree that Dykes if he is not leaving, could be that interchange hooker role from the bench next year. I reckon only one of the three (Webster, Thorman) will stay for that role, and given our spending I don't think it's likely to be the man with the biggest contract...

let Dykes go and probably Thorman for that matter

Witt can and is learning from Jason Taylor, hopefully we will see this for years to come at Parra......
