Its why I think the minor premiership should be more highly regarded. Its a significant achievement and a sign of excellent week to week consistency.

Seems a bit shit that a team can f**k around all year and then pull their fingers out for 3-4 weeks and take home the puddings. Unless we do it of course, then it would be f**ken great.

I remember that during the 2001 season, as an ignorant 16-year old used to watching football, I was riding every win we had hard, because it brought us closer to the Minor Premiership.

When we wrapped up the Minor Premiership in 2001, I celebrated so hard - my cousins (all die-hard Eels fans) kept asking why I was so happy.

When they explained to me what the post-season entailed...

I agree that the Minor Premiership should be made into a much bigger deal.

Like most pundits I don't really see how we beat Melbourne this week. What I most want to see is an Eels side that is ready play the up tempo style I'm sure the Storm are going to bring. I don't want it to be one of those games like last years semi against them where were never in the fight and the result was a fait accompli 15-20 minutes in.

Those games where the opposition look 1.5 to 2 times quicker than us in everything they are doing and killing us up the middle before taking advantage on the edges as our structure gets pulled apart. Where the opposition offload at will and we're basically KO'd on our feet and waiting for the siren to end the suffering. We saw that against the Bunnies 5 or 6 weeks ago. Watching that game at the ground, all over the park we looked slower than them, more predictable than them.

Our club has made a habit of producing those sorts of games for a long time now. Going from near-things like we were in Week 1 of the 2017 finals v the Storm, to being completely outplayed a week later v the Cows. This year I want to see us turn up and be the ones ready to dictate and not react. We're due, surely?
Last year we were frantic in the first half, particularly Moses, who threw some ridiculous passes. We settled down and were much better in the second half.

Storm will come out fast in the first 20 and we have to match their aggression with fast line speed, good scramble and limit their offloads, particularly NAS. Kick to the sideline to slow game down in first 20 to frustrate them. Start with Evans, RCG and Davey first before bringing on Junior, Nuikore and Lane for second 20 and increase tempo and offloads, try to pull their defence apart. Moses and Drown put in short kicks, particularly if their fb in the line, to further break down their defence. If gain momenton bring on Will Smith (for Nrown) and with quick PTBs run more from dummy half, force Storm into penalties or 6 agains and ensure we do controlled kicks into ingoal. Time in possession is the key, we have to earn repeat sets and frustrate them. Every time Smith gets into refs ear Gutho should be there to argue his case and put Smith off. Gutho needs to get into the refs ear also, fire in complaints against Storm players slowing down the ruck, etc, get him policing fairly.

Trying harder has a massive impact in the areas of defence (lick chase, scramble and just getting numbers into the tackle) and support play in attack.
I like this tactic, licking, definitively left field and that'll really put them off. Bet BA never thought of it!

The only way the minor premiership becomes a bigger deal is if you get rid of the semi final series. That ain’t ever happening.

Make it a top 9 system.

Minor Premiers go straight to the Grand Final.

The other 8 teams battle it out to see who joins them in the big dance.

You can have an asinine Finals system, and still reward the Minor Premiers.

Here's what we do:

* Minor Premiers go straight to the Grand Final

* Minor Premiers participate in the Finals series - but they get to select the matches; this affords them a tactical advantage, and allows them to eliminate teams (or tire teams that they are worried about out), knowing that they will play in the Grand Final regardless

Eh? Eh?

Yeah...probably not.
