We also get a second bite at the cherry.

If we throw everything at the Storm, and come short. I dare say we will limp out of the finals week 2 (vs Souths by the looks at this stage)

However, if we can manage a win this Saturday, then 2 weeks to prepare till our next match and a chance to go into the GF, will be massive for us

Got my tickets. Parramatta have never lost a finals match when I have been in attendance.

This is my first Parra finals game.
I got my tickets too. But unfortunately we lost the only finals match I’ve seen us play in person. So blame me if we lose, I’ll obviously be the bad luck charm.

I don't reckon it's particularly us they've worked out. I think it's more that the six again rule makes it easier for one team to really dominate for that first ten to twenty, and doing that can really gain you a big advantage. Not just on the scoreboard, but come the end of the halves when merkins are getting tired, that they've worked out.

If you pressure early, repeat sets though six again are easier to get than a penalty, there's been little to no scrutiny of refs over them. If you can pull a couple in a row, you'll almost guaranteed pull the first penalty as defenders struggle to slow down the play, score once or twice in that period, and you've completely dominated possession for a good wack of time. For most teams on most days, that there's game over

And as we've seen sometimes there's no f**king rhyme or reason why one team's getting the rub of the green on those calls, it often just seems random. But counts can really lean heavily one way or the other.

We were on top of the tigers for most of the first half yet they received 4 six agains to our none. Our only one came on 1st or 2nd tackle on our 10m line. The ones we gave away fair enough, but did Cummins think the tigers were near perfect for 80 minutes?

That game was reffed like Thurstons last game in Townsville

I pre bought GF tickets for 1998... and was dancing in the living room saying “We’re going to Sydney, we’re going to Sydney” with about 14 mins left. So I’m not exactly blameless.

Oh man, that was one of the most disappointing days. If I remember correctly, I believe the TV broadcast was on delay, so we were cruising, then my dad said that on the radio they were saying we were cleaned up in extra time. I went into denial, saying ‘you must’ve heard wrong’. Alas, he did not.

I couldn’t resist the urge to listen to it on radio. Couldn’t believe what I was hearing and had to watch the replay to work out how the f**k it could have happened.

Indeed the telecast was delayed... I'll never forget where I was. Still living at home and I was watching the game on channel 9. As you say, we were cruising, I was getting ahead of myself, started wondering what plans I should make for GF day and where me and my mates would watch it.... At 18-2, I've flicked the channel over to channel 10 for their early edition of Sports Tonight show to get a round up of the post game activities. And then they put the full time score up on the screen before showing the match footage. I was in denial too. Thought to myself, "What are they talking about? What the hell is going on?"... And then the blood drained from my face as the reality unfolded in front of me.... Terrible terrible afternoon...

Oh gosh, I think every Eels fan can relate that day

Was so happy we were going to the grand final at that same moment

Probably our darkest day that we inflicted on ourselves?

If they want to fix the game they need to reduce the ways that one team can gain a possession advantage. Sure it will mean fewer tries but 'building pressure' isn't the best spectacle because seeing one team collapse from fatigue looks shit.

Yeah, I would say it was the worst. 2001 GF sucked, but the Knights were absolutely perfect in that first half, and we were fairly valiant in coming back. When you look back on the team lists for that one with hindsight, you realise what an absolutely stacked team that Newcastle had compared to us. So while that was devastating, it wasn’t undeserved or self-inflicted. But the 98 final was just all on us - sure, there were moments where we were unlucky, but we shouldn’t have given them a sniff, and then we imploded when the going got tough.

What will give me a bit of confidence is that people are writing us off based on recent form.

Rugby League is a funny game, I think there's been other instances where teams either scrape into the 8 or remain in the top 4 and have a poor running leading into the finals, but come semi finals their form suddenly picks up again.

Its a whole new ball game finals footy, I just hope we dont get smashed on the scoreline come Saturday.

Unfortunately I went to both games and 2009 grand Final. At least 09 we were underdogs, but come so close, but 1998 was like, what the heck just happened.

I think like a lot of Parra fans, I didnt see a replay of the game until maybe 10 years later when Fox replayed the game and someone posted bits and pieces of the game on Youtube, presumably a Parra fan as he narrated a few incidents.

Rabs already penciled us in the GF at 18-2 when Whearet scores the try and then Simon kicks out on the full. Oh no its started.

2001 Ive hardly seen a replay of. Yes Newcastle were dominant in the first 40, but we looked so nervous and underprepared, missed tackles and poor handling errors didnt help. Although put it this way I dont think Peden's first try would be awarded today. Still they shouldve been prepared a lot better.

I read somewhere that the Sharks limped into the finals after losing most of their last 5 games. Then they put a few together and won the comp. Never say never I reckon.
