Sure. But the guy who came it absolutely killed it.

I don't really see the problem here really. Paul got outplayed and won the spot back. In the talent stakes he wins but talent doesn't automatically get you picked in first grade.

I can't say it was right or wrong it was just odd. Jenkins played well though.

Alamoti is incredibly talented but absolutely had a few bad games prior to being dropped last year. Whether that was the whole story, who knows. Milky came in and killed it but probably deserved to be where he ended up at the end of the year, at least given how strong our first string backline is.

The whole situation was an incredible marker of where we are as a club. To be able to give a misfiring young talent time to work himself back into form while having a bloke who was looking at 3rd tier football at the start of the year come in and get onto the cusp of rep selection is a barely believable story. To have Alamoti come back as strong as ever when Milky began to slow down was pure gravy.

Hmm this sounds awfully logical and reasonable...who let you post in here?

Better than well. He was killing it. Was a big part of our winning streak.

If injury strikes we've got a great option in Jenkins...or should I say Alamoti?
Alamoti is second picked in the backline behind To'o, yes ahead of Casey at this point

Well he wasn't for a good portion of last year.

He was being outplayed by Jenkins. It was a good kick up the arse for Paul.
Are you sure Alamoti wasn’t dropped for disciplinary reasons as I did hear? Jenkins did well when he got his shot no doubt, but Alamoti offers much more than Milky can.

1-2 weeks for discipline right? And then punishment over to play the last round and finals?

Doesn't seem to add up to me.

What aren’t you getting? Alamoti gets dropped for disciplinary reasons then Milky comes in and goes well. Come Semi time though, who do you think teams will fear more.

Fact is Alamoti is a massive unit who carts the ball back To’o style, fits more to the Pantherball theme wouldn’t you say. Sure Milky is safe, but will that score you tries and win you matches when it counts. Alamoti had a mighty finals series.

I'm definitely concerned about the perpetual benchies not getting game time over the course of the year. Imagine Cogger or Lussick get next to zero competetive game time in either NRL or cup all year, then Nath or Kenny go down in a prelim/GF. You wouldn't want a guy coming in raw in a situation like that. At the very least we should be looking at a rotation, having one of our utility options playing cup every other week or something like that.

They will play NSW cup if its on a different day id say.

I think we are on the same page. Its the timeline I have doubts over.

I just had a look now. Paul was dropped after the Newcastle debacle in Bathurst. After that he had 2 rounds in NSW cup, back in firsts, cup again, firsts for two rounds, back in NSW cup for three rounds. He wasn't a preferred starter.

Meanwhile Jenkins played every single game in first grade during that period. That includes those massive rounds we played against the Bulldogs, Storm and Raiders who were all top 4. These were considered must win games and we picked a best 17 that didn't include Alamoti.

That is what I was getting at, it was more than discipline during that period. It could very well have been the reason this all started but the bottom line was that Jenkins and co. were playing better football. In no way is that a slight on Alamoti.

Your last statement is equally true. I was gutted for Jenkins but didn't lose any sleep because we had Alamoti coming in. I think @age.s nailed it a few posts before. Jenkins form dipped a bit and Alamoti had a good hit out against the Dragons. Keeping in mind his performance in the 2024 grand final. A hard decision was made.

Alamoti will be starting winger

I was taking the piss with that last post. I rate Alamoti and with everyone playing peak football he should be in our best backline.

But I also rate the form we saw from Jenkins last year. He was starting material and he earned the position. Its a great thing that we have pressure for spots. If anyone gets chopped from our 17 its a safe bet that someone else is heavily knocking on the door for a call up.

The match prior to this one was the draw vs the Cows in Townsville in which he was binned for a careless shoulder to the head. I think the Cows ran in 2 or 3 tries during the time he was off in a game they weren't really in prior. Probably the most memorable poor moment he's had with us.

Worth noting that Henry was dropped at the same time after a similarly stupid/impactful binning in the Newcastle game. Discipline had been an issue all season to that point, and given we both improved in that area and largely woke up from our early season funk at that exact moment, it's hard not to think making an example of those guys played a big part in turning our season around.
