Well here is the week in sport. These are the main events i can think of but feel free to add an others.
F1 Grand Prix - Silverstone
1. M. Hakkinen - McLaren
2. M. Schumacher - Ferrari
3. R. Barrichello - Ferrari
4. J. Montoya - Williams
5. T. Raikkonen - Sauber
Mika came out of the woodworks and finally joined us this year, about time Mika! The win sees Michael Schumacher edge further and further in front with a 34 point lead over Coulthard in the championship now. In the constructors theres no change between the big 2 with Ferrari substaining their 52 point lead over McLaren. Next race - Hockenhiem.
British Open - St Annes - 3 rounds completed.
1. Alexander -6
1. Duval -6
1. Langer -6
1. Woosnam -6
5. Clark -5
5. Montgomerie -5
28. Woods -1
Duval shot a great round today to set him up well for the final round tomorrow in what will be a great showdown bettween 4 top golfers. Woods seems right out of it after being 3 under early on in his round today. My pick is that Duval will finally get that major title that has been illuding him.
Cricket - Ashes and NZ tour
Test 2 of ashes series - 3rd day stumps
England 187 & 163/4 (53.0)
Australia 401
It looks like Australia are headed to another test victory and 1 closer to rapping up the series. Gilchrist put in a great effort with the bat while McGrath has been on fire with the ball.
In the other cricketing news NZ have played 2 matches in the coca cola cup hosted by Sri Lanka. They lost the first match against Sri Lanka quite convincinly but in the second match against India they won by a big margin with Nathan Astle putting in a great innings of 117 to take man of the match.
Cycling - Tour De France - 13 stages completed
1. Lance Armstrong 57h 49'28"
2. Andrei Kivilev 03'54"
3. Francois Simon 04'31"
4. Jan Ullrich 05'13"
Lance Armstrong won stage 13 in an impressive display, Ullrich stuck with the American most of the way until he misjudged a corner and crashed down a bankment. He made his way back to Armstrong before being blown off the pace. Armstrong now looks unstoppable, he should keep the jersey right the way to Paris.
Rugby Union - Tri Nations opener
New Zealand 12
South Africa 3
Well it was typical of a kick and clap match with an all penalty goal affair. As usual it was a battle of the number 10's with Tony Brown coming out on top and winning the match for the All Blacks. Don't read too much into this the real battle is between Australia and NZ.
AFL - Round 16
Richmond 127 Melbourne 86
Carlton 131 Freemantle 56
Hawthorn 144 Collingwood 89
Bulldogs 112 St Kilda 78
Brisbane 94 Port Adelaide 60
Geelong 150 West Coast 80
Sydney 105 Adelaide 56
Essendon 171 Kanagroos 159
Essendon still lead the comp by 12 points and just cruise on in to that premiership that so obviously awaits them.
NRL - Round 20
Parramatta 54 Melbourne 10
Sharks 40 Northern 18
North Queensland34St George-Illawara10
Penrith26 Roosters 16
Bulldogs 37 Brisbane 30
Wests 28 Raiders 22
Newcastle 37 New Zealand 30
Parramatta have just gone further ahead in the comp while the bulldogs now move into second. The Roosters hit an all time low while the top 8 fight hit a stand still with all teams losing. Its been a round of upsets.
Cheers
