Great work in keeping St Helens to a 34-20 scoreline, could've been even closer if some of the calls went their way.

also a 8200+ crowd... even though they've lost their fair share of games.

Yeah, from listening to the radio and hearing from a friend at the game it seemed a very vibrant and positive night for the French. My mate at the game says he has never seen passion like it at a rugby league game. For a set of supporters of a new side to be that into it shows how committed they are to their league. The noise from the crowd on the radio sounded magnificent.

I just pray that the organisation get things right. They have a tough task in balancing the need to succeed in the competition and the need to include French players in the side. I hope they can nurture the French talent and bring them up to Super League level rather than relying on Australians and New Zealanders. The likes of Fakir and Berthezene have shown themselves to be more than capable of playing in Super League. They seem to be heading down the right road, with the system of using UTC in the French league as a breeding ground.

Great game to watch but - and I don't usually say this - the ref killed Les Cats and the match as a contest. He was dire.

He'd already given several poor decisions against Cats when Fellous got his head taken off by that waste of space Fozzard, for which Klein gave a knock against Fellous before the touch judge intervened. Unbelievable decision from Klein as Fellous is lying on the turf with a bloody nose after Fozzard had leapt in the air and collected him with a right hook.

But the worst decision of all ended the match as a contest. I felt sorry for the crowd who were well in the game, even at the end, and would have been going berserk if Klein hadn't made such a bad call. With the score at 20-8 Rudder clearly scored a try which Klein ruled out for a double movement even though Rudder clearly, clearly still had forward momentum going and merely reached over with his arm. I could not believe it.

Deflated, Les Cats then proceeded to allow Saints, as so often happens in RL, to fly down the other end and score. So instead of being one score behind they were now three behind and the rest of the match was merely a process of playing out time.

As for Les Cats players, Berthezene, Fellous, Guisset, Fakir were all superb, putting their more illustrious Aussie colleagues firmly in the shade. Seb Martins seems to have shed some weight too and looked good for it.

Honestly, I don't get Dobson. I've said it before, but he just doesn't do enough. Yeah, he puts his hand up and gets involved but he hardly creates and his kicking game is woeful. Only one tactical kick was any good all night, a long range one.

great to hear.... for a new cub with so much unproven talent at the upper levels, it is quite impressive. The fans are really showing the demand for top level league in the region....

all good things
