Not when they get NRL they wont! Its literally the best way of Ch10 and Paramount getting ratings up instantly and relevance in Australia again. From that they can rebuild their programming. If Ch10 put 4 games on FTA (inc Saturday night) they are back with the big boys. Other 5 games on Paramount with the 6th to come and a $600mill bid. That'd be a great outcome for NRL!
Not going to happen.

Spot on - content drives viewership.

If 10/Paramount want viewership growth, they need to shell-out for something people want to watch - and the surest way is buying a proven drawcard.

No mention of Brand, it is the bid team involving the state government and NRLWA. Details are confidential so I wasn't given much other than the dialogue has been happening and more importantly the TV networks prefer the Sunday night slot that Perth offers.

Very encouraging news

One of the fans in perth is collecting some amazing wa rl history for a n eventual rugby league museum here in perth. Lots of interesting things being uncovered including some rare stuff from when the western reds were nearly launched as the perth pumas.

just been watching some footage of the western reds tour of South Africa!

I have a partially signed Western Reds team photo from their 1994 tour of Sth Africa somewhere. And a big corflute Reds logo again partially signed. Other than those and a foundation member's cap and badge, my other Reds gear is all stuff that was commercially available at the time (jersey with NSWRL badge, footy shorts and socks, bomber jacket, a couple of t-shirts, another cap, mini football, flag, beanie, ect). I do have all the 'BigLeague Extra' mini-magazine inserts that were available at Reds home games in 1995 too somewhere.

As a 14yr old at the time, looking back now, I took that era for granted and didn't appreciate how good a time it was. Even, and especially, as a Knights supporter too, wow they were great days. Fast-forward to 2023: No Perth team for 26yrs, and little success for Newcastle in far too long too!

Buying the NRL rights gives Channel 10 Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night programming -- the thing they don't really have now. It gives Paramount 5 exclusive games to build their subscriber base.

The giants is the one of the worst expansions in the history of world sport. Put a team somewhere just because there’s a lot of people living there. Beyond ridiculous. Next thing the AFL will play games in China…
Sheedy pushed for that because of the population size ,he thought as soon as people saw the game they be be over the moon. Then they bought Folau expecting to grab the Polynesian community.Thick as planks.
Perth a different story with an awareness, reasonable following(many expats & nth Poms) and a junior base. Sunday night time slot ideal ,can't see it on FTA though.Money anyway is with Fox and FTA promotion is sh*thouse.
The added bonus as we would then start to resemble a national code, it would FWIW bring on more national advertisers like the Toyotas and even Qantas.
Depending too much on ch10 and Paramount be wary, they have cut back staff worldwide due to diminishing interest in FTA and even cable.

@Perth Red Darth Vlandys has admitted he was wrong in saying those things about rusted on *other sport* states.
These words are very strong about the Perth bid. Will this see you lighten your stance on him?

WA PREMIER CALLS PVL AS EXPANSION RACE HEATS UP
Perth has shot back into serious contention in NRL expansion plans after a phone call from newly installed West Australian premier Roger Cook to independent commission boss Peter V’landys.
The premier contacted V’landys last week just days after taking over as leader from Mark McGowan to start lobbying for a Perth side to be included in 18th-team discussions.
This comes on top of news ticket sales for the August NRL double header in Perth were tracking for a bumper crowd of 45,000-plus at Optus Stadium.
The city has previously sold out two State of Origin matches, proving there is an obvious appetite for rugby league as an AFL alternative.

V’landys, who was originally against a Perth team, admits he has had a change of heart.
“I’ll acknowledge I was wrong with my initial thoughts,” he said. “Perth has to be high on the table now, especially with a premier so passionate about wanting to have a team there. They warrant serious consideration.
“If you’ve got a government that’s going to get 100 per cent behind you, you’ve got a run-up start. We had a really good conversation and we’ll be chatting again. The fact he rang in his first week in the job shows how keen they are.”
The WA sports minister is now preparing an official proposal and the possibility of a joint venture with the old North Sydney Bears.
V’landys says all options – including a 20-team competition – are open to the independent commission, including PNG.
“Nick Politis is a visionary,” V’landys said. “He’s said why are you looking at 18 teams. Why not 20.
“If you do your participation and pathways right, the 20 teams can happen sooner.
“And it’s all funded by the broadcaster from the extra content.”
Optus Stadium will host an NRL double header in August.

The Perth double header on Saturday, August 5 will feature Dolphins v Knights at 5:30 followed by the Rabbitohs v Sharks at 7:35pm (AEST).
While WA Tourism is said to be delighted with the number of interstate visitors booked to fly into Perth for the weekend, the vast majority of early tickets sold have been snapped up by locals who love their rugby league.
There has also been significant business support around corporate sales.

You’ve opened the door for him to go on a self justifying endless anti V’landys rant but why the hell not?
