Round 7:

Wests HM and SG Ball lost their games against Penrith. With 2 rounds remaining, it looks like neither side will make the finals.

Balmain HM and SG Ball won their games against Easts. Both sides are now in the top 8, with SG Ball beating the highly rated Easts side 28-24.

Balmain HM and SG Ball go around against the Central Coast at Leichhardt Oval this Friday night. HM kicks off at 6.30pm, followed by the SG Ball at 7.45pm. These games are vital to the Balmain teams - position in the 8 for the HM and to stay in the 8 for the SG Ball.

All the old Balmain supporters and new Wests Tigers supporters who live within the area should try to get there and cheer the boys on.

Balmain HM and SG Ball won their games against the Central Coast, tonight. The HM boys are now entrenched in the top 4 and the Ball should now be certain of a top 8 spot with one preliminary round remaining.

Well done.

If any poster was at the ground, a match/s summary would be appreciated.

Round 9:

Wests HM and SG Ball teams lost their games against Souths and have now finished their season.

Balmain HM and SG Ball teams won their games against Illawarra.

The Balmain HM team finished in 2nd place after the preliminary rounds and now have a qualifying 1/4 final against the team that finished 3rd.

The Balmain SG Ball team finished in 5th place (equal 3rd on comp points) due to "for and against" percentages and will play an elimination 1/4 final against the team that finished 8th.

Good luck to both sides for next week's 1/4s.

Thanks for your updates magpie! Really surprised with the magpies missing both semis, I always remember the juniors being so strong out there. Can you see any reason, and do you think we will turn it around soon? So many good juniors come from out campbelltown!

Both Wests sides had a number of good prospects and were extremely competitive in many games, but seemingly lacked consistency.

Wests don't import players (very often) and are a true generic district rep side/s. Therefore they will be strong one year (team wise) and not so strong in other years.

Balmain (wont mind me saying this) hold selective elite trials and are very good at spotting talent from other districts. The majority of Balmain SG Ball side would not be Balmain juniors but players from other districts overlooked by non-talented talent scouts (haha) or players recognised in their district but told by the same non-talented talent scouts that they will need to play out of their usual position/s if selected for their district.

Also Matthew Head seemingly is potentially a very good coach.

Of the team outside of the top 4 in SG Ball (Parra, Pennies, Easts and Souths - who all get two chops at the finals), I believe Balmain and Canberra are storming home.

Cheers. I understand the Balmain side have relied on imports over the years but I'm impressed with the actual number of local juniors there are these days as well. As you said wests have always been predominantly local with a scattering of imports from country boys from st gregs and group 6 (I think). Either way, the fact we have two junior areas to choose from is a very good thing.

Yeah, Balmain juniors in Ball include young Siro. Junior Tatola and Pifeleti Pifeleti among others.

This ball side is a good unit. While it is hard to win it from 5th to 8th position, if any team can do it - they are capable.

I think they play Melbourne (8th position) in a knockout qualifer next week.
