The Western Suburbs Magpies and the Windsor Wolves have booked their tickets through to the NSW Cup Grand Final Qualifiers and will now face the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and the Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers respectively. The Magpies ground out a 20-14 win against Wentworthville while the Wolves produced one of the greatest comebacks in NSWRL history to defeat the Newtown Jets 34-18 in front of a healthy crowd at Leichhardt Oval.
The Wolves looked shot when volatile forward Daine Laurie was sent off after a scuffle with Ray Moujalli early in the second half but the 12-man Wolves outfit scored 32 points to 4 with Laurie off the field in what veteran Rugby League caller Ray Hadley called "the most amazing game he has seen in many years".
"We had Shane Elford pull out late and ,with Daine off the field, we knew we just had to do something special," hat-trick hero and Windsor winger David Simmons said.
"Balmain Ryde-Eastwood will be a really tough game for us next week but this win will give us a huge amount of confidence."
Western Suburbs Coach Leo Epifania would be happy his side escaped with the win because at times they looked patchy.
In a game for the purists, the Wests men claimed the victory with the weight of posession and Epifania will want a repeat defensive performance from his men who look impenetrable at times.
