Cannot believe it.

Wests Tigers is pleased to announce the signing of exciting young prop James Gavet for the 2013 season.
Born in New Zealand, the 23-year-old hard running forward made his NRL debut for Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs against the Brisbane Broncos in round 23 this season.
He previously came through the ranks of the Warriors, having played in their NYC and NSW Cup teams. Gavet was named the NSW Cup Prop of the Year in 2011.
“James is a very mobile prop/second-rower with a good offload and good skills. He is looking to cement a first grade spot,’’ said Wests Tigers Recruitment Manager Warren McDonnell.
“He will add plenty of depth to our forward pack. James is in his first week of training at Wests Tigers and has already impressed NRL Coach Mick Potter with his skills and fitness.”

from wiki:
Born in New Zealand, Gavet played his junior football for rugby union club Ponsonby and the Richmond Bulldogs before being signed by the New Zealand Warriors. He played for the Warriors' Toyota Cup team in 2009, scoring 2 tries in 18 games[1] before moving on to the Warriors' NSW Cup reserve-grade team, the Auckland Vulcans in 2010.
In 2011, Gavet was named Prop of the Year in NSW Cup and signed a 2-year contract with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs after playing them in the 2011 NSW Cup Grand Final.[2] In Round 23 of the 2012 NRL season he made his NRL debut for the Bulldogs against the Brisbane Broncos.
On December 12, 2012 he signed for the greatest club in the NRL, the Wests Tigers. [3]

He is basically a downgrade of Junior Moors in my eyes.

But he is younger and if Potter gets him working it could just pay off

Gavet is around 105kgs and 6 foot 1... so he's not small but not a massive merkin either. He is very aggressive and hard-running, which tends to make up for being a bit on the light side. I think he will be a great buy for you guys.

Sounds quite good and it is a start.

I personally like that he is young player that can develop with the team Potter will no doubt create. If you consider Woods, BMM and Thompson are similar in age it is good to see some young bulls in our rotation.

I think the role of prop is different now days, they don't seem to be the off-load in traffic types that Beetson and Roach were. Just look how Bellamy uses them, he wants a high work rate and then he will rotate them when they get knocked up. A couple of runs per set and then tackle anyone with the ball seems to be his mantra so youth maybe the way to go. That was my biggest gripe with Sheens, he just wouldn't rest our starting props enough.

I don't think this guy would have cost too much so as I say, it is a promising start to what I hope will be a good year....

In stature or play Gav, or both?

I hear he's on the smaller side for a f/r

Ability more then anything Ink. Different styles of running and different ball skill sets but both fill the same squad slot. I rate Moors higher but the future is Gavet's to decide.

Either way you are right. Need a prop, buy a prop. The Sheens nightmare of the last few years in terms of selections gets that little bit further in the rear view everyday

His biggest problem is he has been a halfwit hanging around with even bigger dopes during his career.

Sometimes a player finally clicks ala Gaigai (sp?) after a few chances

we dont have a great record with budget priced props. A few come to mind,Peter Lewis, ryan tandy and their were others that have slipped my mind they were so forgettable.
Mind you under Potter maybe things will be different. Its only a one year deal so worth the gamble
