Rugby League: Setback for Marsh's return from neck injury
06.05.2004 8.48 pm
New Zealand Warriors and Queensland State of Origin rugby league hooker PJ Marsh's return from a serious neck injury has been delayed indefinitely.
Marsh, who had hoped to already be back on the field, was handed the bad news at a medical check up in Auckland yesterday.
A second scan revealed insufficient improvement to partially dislocated vertebrae, according to Warriors' club doctor Chris Hanna.
"PJ's recovery from neck surgery has not advanced," he said.
Marsh underwent neck surgery nine months ago after landing awkwardly when tackled against his former club Parramatta Eels last June.
He has not played or taken part in contact training since suffering the injury.
"PJ needs time to think about the implications of his condition before meeting the surgeon and discussing his future options," Hanna said.
Warriors coach Daniel Anderson said Marsh was very upset upon learning the results of the scan.
"This is devastating news for both PJ and the club - we will take time to help PJ consider his options," Anderson said.

What a shame. One of the best young talents cut short in his prime.
Bad luck matey.
Health is more important than a game of football.
PJ's best games .. the 2001 final series... In retrospect, he should have started instead of Jasen Taylor. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
