What did we learn tonight

1. No spark from the bench now Kingston isnt there
2.Cayless unfortunately doesn't have it currently
3.We have the slowest and least creative 7 in the comp
4. The backs never get the ball in space
5. Mannah is the form forward

Answers, maybe try Ant Mitchell , at least he is a running hooker off the bench.
Horo measured up, are there some others that can do a job at Wenty
Robson unquestionably is a back up ( note I didn't say hack)
Hopefully we can get some momentum over time, because they look not as sharp as other sides.
We miss Shack and he didn't complete a game
Morts/KK have to get an extendedd run in the halves

1-To be fair, Mortimer was out, so we lost that bench utility role. I'd think about bringing Mortimer back on the bench next week...he's a great ball runner.
2-Better than Poore, more consistent than Mannah at this stage. No brainer to keep him in there.
3-He took us to a GF, we didn't play a halfback-centric game last year and we haven't thus far this year...
4-Really? I thought I saw Inu score a try from a good backline movement....Reddy and Tahu make several busts and half busts...Although we should utilise them more, it's also made difficult when we make 60 more tackles than the Tigers in a tough half of footy
5-Fui is still better....

Just IMO

Not saying we wont improve, just trying to point out our issues, can't put the head in the sand and say it will come good this year becasue it did 12 months ago. It doesn't generally work out that way

Baz let's agree to differ, the 7 played last year and wasn't threatening , and takes two steps to pass the ball. He is ordinary.

Cayless is in effecxtive, tries every set but you can't tell me he is playing better than Mannah, unbelieveable the opposition just push him back.

Fui is playing relatively poorly foir him, sure when they get space the backline moves but not when they wait for something from the halfback

Look, ideally I'd have Robson on the bench or even starting at hooker...I think that's where he's best suited. But at the moment, we have three halves in first grade, and he's better than one of them (Mortimer) as it stands. Moving Robbo to 6 and KK to 7 might be worth a shot, with Morts off the bench as a runner...but if you're going to play the utility off the bench, there's no way we can drop Robson at this stage...Mitchell isn't ready, and Humble is a fullback and even less ready.

we are no worse then we were in the 1st 3 rounds last year and we ended up playing in the GF.

Exactly.

There's no need to panic. We were awesome last year and teams are lifting to play us. The Tigers were up for it this week and were awesome in defence.

No team can be up every week. So far we haven't been up at all except for the second half against Manly.

We do need a take-charge halfback but we needed one of those last year too. Would be nice if Poore started playing like he did last year because he's been sh*thouse so far. He just looks like a big fat slug. I hope he doesn't become another Aaron Cannings.

Otherwise I thought we were just flat. It didn't help that the Tigers were so committed in defence. We might go better next week or we might save it for mid-season.

OK lets sit back and wait for it to happen again

I am a bit older than a lot of people on this forum, and that won;t happen again like it did last year. As in business you have to confront your issues, address them and move on

Waiting for something to happen usually means it won't

Nah, Morts (when he isn't flu-ridden) has to start because on his game he's one of most creative players. Two games into the season is a bit early to start benching players with his ability.

Maybe. But if we want impact off the bench, Mortimer is our best broken play running utility/half....as a tactical ploy, it's as good as any

I don't think he is creative. He is tenacious, backs up real well and get jink and run but I don't recall him putting players through gaps, a deft kick, spiral passes ala Tim Smith, Jarryd Hayne.

What do you guys think of putting hayne at 5/8 again. Seriously we have nothing without him in attack. He has all the skills and from this position he can control the game with his long and short kicks and create as do soward and benji. Maybe inu can go to fullback as i believe he can offer more than burt in this position. Morts to hooker as he is the liveliest and will always be sniffing around and supporting.
Just my suggestion.

just on m keating, very dissapointing. His service and vision is not as good as most nrl hookers. Occasionally runs which is probably his strong point.

Robson needs to drop to the bench for Mortimer.
6. kk
7. morts
9. mitchell
14. robo

secondly, the forwards need to hand back their pays. All of them have been guilty of blugding at some stage.

Lastly, Inu has convinced me that he is twice the winger most people make out. When Burt comes back i would swap Grothe for Inu.

Parra can't play any worse!

Providing impact off the bench is supposed to be Mateo's role. I think it's gonna take Parra till round 5-6 before they start to click like they did last year. If they're still struggling after that, then Morts from the bench might be worth a try.

I'm not comparing him to someone like Hayne, but think back to that chip and chase he put on against Newcastle last year - That was pretty sweet. I've always though his short passing was pretty good as well.

Hayne, imo, was the spark out there tonight. Everything that happened - or look like happening - came from his vision.
Hindy is struggling big time, might be getting past it, even though I had him in my top 3 Eels
The defence of Joel Reddy Ben Smith and EGJ left a lot to be desired.
West punctured their side of the paddock everytime they ventured that way.
Robson, and the Keatings have no idea when it comes to tactical kicking. None.
Tim Mannah was strong.
If EGJ had scored in first half it would have changed the complexion of the match. It was a simple case of catch it and you're in. Wests scored a couple of arsey tries through kicks..Good skills, but full of blot..
