What do the Parramatta Eels mean to you?

Lots of talk of late of struggling NRL Sydney clubs, possible mergers, relocations or death of NRL clubs

Ideally we all want the Parramatta Eels to be a stand alone identity, If this wont be possible in the near future then would you support the NRL and/or the EELS if......

1. Eels merged with another club

2. Eels relocated

3. Eels folded

Personally Id take an initial interest if the eels relocated, and possibly merged.
But couldnt guarantee if my support span would be long term

If the eels folded alltogether Id lose total interest in rugby league and the NRL

i would rather them relocate first. merging, will kind of kill the club spirit but if there is a merger it seems penrith will be the club we merge with. if they fold then, i wont watch rugby league ever again, and would probably move to melbourne and follow afl

if the eels merged with another club i wouldn't support the side the way i do now but would still follow league (with a soft spot for the new venture).

if the eels relocate i'd keep supporting but my trips to home games would be changed depending on where the relocation was.

if we folded i would follow the league without any particular favourite side. i'd say my interest in afl would increase.

I would never walk away from the Eels, or whoever they may become in the future.

If they cease to exist, then after a period of mourning, I would still have an interest in NRL but probably only on par with the Waratahs, Swans and Sydney FC.

If we relocated I'd still follow us.

If we merged or folded I'd be purely a Sydney FC fan, and during the winter I'd watch the Socceroos games and take a passing interest in Super 14, AFL, and my interest in overseas sports would increase.

In fact, I'm starting to think that the Super 14 is getting better than League anyway. League is predictable and boring. It's only the Eels that keep me interested.

Agree. I guess it's not really surprising given League is now the ONLY football code anywhere in the world where the defending team can nolonger legally compete for the ball (striking at the play the ball, scrums, stripping etc) unless they are "invited" to (eg. when contesting a bomb).

I think Wayne Bennett summed it up about 10 years a go when he says he now looks for find athletes, then teach them to play football, rather than the other way around.

I would continue following them just as strongly if they relocated tbh.. as long as the players, colours and logo remained the same.
If they merged.. I guess I'd be more excited then anything at the new make-up of the team. I wouldn't be as passionate a supporter as I am now, but I would still follow the club week in, week out.
If the club had to fold then I'd almost lose interest in the game completely..

I could cop us relocating, living in Brissy anyway so it's not a big issue. But if we merged i don't think i could support the side.

Is that the same super 14 comp that continually get's outrated by the NYC???? And also gets outrated by the super saturday preview show. I'm not happy at where the game is heading but where not going anywhere enough bad for me to watch the stuper 14 comp ahead of league.

I think the Waratahs game last night was the closest S14 game you would get to a league game , with guys like Waugh smashing the opposition in defece , but this game is not typical of Super 14.
I enjoy all codes of football , with a DEEP passion for the Eels, and would have difficulty following any entity EXCEPT a stand-alone Parramatta.

1. Following a merged Eels would be like supporting an entirely new club. It would hurt too much to see some luke-warm entity running around in the blue and gold. Besides I'm too 'Parra' to switch teams now, so I'd probably hand in my Eels membership and take up a Swans one.

2. I don't see relocation as an option. The NRL need a strong team in the west and they would much sooner see Parra merge with the Panthers or Bulldogs.

3. I don't see Parra ever folding as such and they would merge first. Either way they'd be dead to me.

Relocation...I'd follow them just as much as I do now. If they merged, it would depend who with and the extent of the merger. EG ST George have pretty much swallowed Illawarra, so if we were in the position of St George in a merger then I'd be just as supportive as I am now. If were got the Illawarra deal I'd probably be less supportive but I'd still follow them. Of course, if the merger was with the Dogs or someone I'd be less supportive than if it was with someone like Penrith.

If the NRL gave us the arse I'd never watch a game again, unless they brought us back

I'd cop a merger with Penrith only because I've been predicting it for years, we'll be one club playing mostly out of ANZ by 2012...mark my words.

Couldnt support a merge as it would be too painful, maybe a relocation if it was in our favour, instead of talking sh*t like this why dont we just attend the farkn games, I know its expensive but its the price you pay if you are passionate enough, we are all assuming its a forgone conclusion.

Not a parra fan but hey whatever. Im bored.
-If my team was to relocate, I'd still support but obviously I wouldn't be a season ticket holder anymore. Would be gutted for a fair while though.
-Merger....depends on who it was with. I could not tolerate a merge with Souths. I don't know who I'd support. Doubt I could change teams. I don't know.
-Roosters get cut, the NRL never gets another cent out of me. Ever.

I would rather seem them fold than relocate or merge.

Parra or nothing.

Some watered down merged entity playing from a generic location would be meaningless.

I find it interesting that the overwhelming feeling - including that of the Rooster supporter who has infiltrated our discussion :p - is that we'd follow a relocation more than a merge.

It seems that the location isn't as important as the 'ownership' of the club (even though we don't really own anything - the club treats us all like sh*t).
