What do you expect from Chris Sandow in 2012?

Specifically, I mean what do you expect from Sandow on the field. Obviously there is a lot of speculation about his conduct off the field, and I'm sure we all have the same hopes for him in that area.

So how much do you expect Sandow to perform next year , and what kind of role do you see him playing? How do you think he'll be used (hidden?) in defence? What will he contribute to the team?

If your answer includes variations of 'steering the team around the park', 'controlling the team', 'organising', etc., what does this mean to you?

I think he will be inconsistent and frustrating. But we will be very happy to have him because he will win us more games then we lose and be better then previous options.

I expect he'll be more controlled defensively. Kearney will actually teach him in that regard (ie, not so much on the big hit attempts, more at attempting "proper" tackles). He'll play 3rd in, and not in the centers (where he got caught out far too often).

He'll be the 'chief' playcaller - get the ball when he wants it and where he wants it. Will have full responsibility for creativity inside the 20, and will generally kick the ball long.
I'm almost certain Roberts starts next to him, and Roberts will be asked to be the 'calming influence' - do the talking, steer the forwards to action and point the ball around, probably help out with the long kicking too - but Sandow will overcall whenever he wants and whenever he sees something is "on".

long story short: Sandow is being brought here to put points on the scoreboard - and we'll go to him LOTS in that regard. I predict he puts Hayne into a lot of gaps and as a team we score LOTS of points.
will be better than people think in defence.

For mine, the interesting thing is how Hayne handles playing second fiddle (playmaker) with Sandow there.

He is used to calling the shots and getting it whenever he wants.

In SOO and City Country, he looked lost when not the chief playmaker or not getting the ball when he wanted.

It will be interesting how he and Sandow will blend.

My other concern is MK. I hope he just delivers good, fast, quality balls to Sandow, et al and not over play his dummy half role as he has chosen alot of wrong options.

Back to Sandow, he'll have some strike players with Tonga, Hayne, Loko out wide. He will need to give them quality early ball to give them time to get one on one with their opponents. He will ocasionally need to go himself to keep the defense guessing and he will need to control field position with his kicks. He's got all that but as I said before, the combinations will prove to be interesting.

Lastly, I hope SK puts together game plans with deep backline movements. For too long we have been playing flat which essentially wiped out the opportunity for some of our backs like Tahu and Grothe.

To put the enemy into 2 minds. Will he put a team mate into a gap or will he go himself?

he doesnt have the stamina for a long sprint but he is pretty quick over short distances i can imagine him and jarryd toying with defenders after one of them makes a break and passes it to the other

in SOO (and with the eels in 2011) he often had to call the shots because he could see the team was going nowhere if he knows sandow has things well in hand he might hang back and wait for an opportunity

I expect an intelligent and patient kicking game from Sandow, the ability to read the game and know what is the appropriate play. The ability to slow or speed up the game through his general kicking game, gain repeat sets and find the grass on the fifth tackle.

I expect Sandow to play every game next year unless injured or selected in a rep side. (We've screwed if he gets injured...).

I see him playing the role... of halfback. *bugger, Snoochies beat me to it!*

Like others I think he'll defend 3 in, the same place Morts and Robson both did. He needs to have a strong defensive centre (W Tonga?) on one side of him, and a strong defensive backrower (Hindy? Smith?) on the other side of him.

He will contribute a level of attacking and organising skill, along with sheer confidence and unpredictability that we have been lacking in the halves. By organising, if he works out some combos with the attacking weapons in our backline (Hayne, W Tonga, Burt and the other winger, and whoever plays five-eighth) then we might be able to actually make some teams guess in defence next season.
