What happens if

The Warriors finish 4th, the 4v5 semi starts at 7:30 Sydney time, but for this to happen if the game is in NZ it would need to start at 9:30 New Zealand time, would they show the game delayed in Sydney or would they reshuffle the channel 9 times for Friday to show it live? You'd get the same problem if they finished 2nd.

No other choice but for Channel 9 to put it on delay.
I can only hope if they do put it on delay they treat it like a live match and don't give us 45 minutes worth of ads and make the coverage go for 2 1/2 hours.

No I think they were talking about a comromise time so it could be shown live. I heard that kickoff would be about 8 or 8.30 in NZ so the game would be 6.00 or 6.30 here.

We had a Friday Night Game earlier this year(the Warriors had a Channel 9 game!?) and it was played at 8.00pm over here.

Yeah against Penrith, and was on delay back here in Australia.
I hope CHannel 9 show some sense and get the game on live here at 6.30pm, who cares about A Current Affair?
They will win the prime time ratings with the live footy final followed by a decent movie, the footy will have everyone tuned in.

If I was Channel 9, I'd have the telecast start at 6:30pm live (after National Nine News), allow for 10-15 mins of prematch discussion, followed by the match kicking off at 6:40-45pm (8:40-45pm NZ time) live. 8:40-45pm kickoff is considered to be reasonable and fair, as the 3rd qualifying final on the Saturday Night also kicks off at that time. Hopefully, common sense on the behalf of Channel 9 will prevail.

What are your thoughts on this?

an 8:00 or even 8:30 kickoff on a friday night in Auckland wouldn't be a bad thing as it gives people plenty of time to get to the game after work, an important consideration given that quite a few Warriors fans live a fair distance from Mt Smart.

Problem is though if it's too late in NZ (after 8.30pm), you run the risk of losing viewers in NZ, especially young kids over there in NZ who we want to get to see the match and fall in love with the game.
It's a tricky one, I'd be happy for the game to start at 8pm NZ time and we take it on a 1 hour delay provided 9 don't throw in heaps of Ad's when they go to their breaks.

Another point I was going to get it. Because it's on a weekday, enough time must be given for fans who work to get to the match in time. Something that the 7pm kickoff on Monday Night Football doesn't quite accomodate for.

The logical thing to do would be to switch the 3v6 match on early Saturday night with the 4v5 match on Friday night.

The first week of the finals don't have to be played in a set order. They just can't be played in any order. Switching 4v5 and 3v6 will not create a situation where we know a match is a dead rubber in advance.

Whether the NRL realises it has this flexibility is another matter.

Cheers.

They have advertised and stated that all the finals will be live and after the Cricket fiasco a few years back I think they will show it live.

kick off at 9:30 is also not unheard of, if I recall correctly, we had a few of them last year

The game will be played at 5:30pm in NZ it will take the signal 4 hrs to reach sydney meaning we will basically see it live as long as those two kiwi's keep peddling to keep the generator going. Do they know its 2007 in NZ yet???:sarcasm:

it won't matter to the kiwis if it's payed at 9:30pm even in mid winter- what else have they got to do but go out to farms and try to chase up a girlfriend or 2:crazy:
