What is the credit crisis going to do to league in 2009?

Lets face it, we are more susceptible to it then the other codes. Our fan base is largely blue collar and many of our clubs are located in working class suburbs

I think we saw the early impact of it this year but next year will be worse. Look at the a-league for some additional evidence of this

In addition, tough times may impact on the revenue that leagues clubs draw. The old battler who bashes through his $20 on the pokies every week may not be in the same position to do this in 2009

This will be a big issue for the game and I fear some of the crowds that we will pull. What are the NRL going to do about it? How about some forward thinking and giving the battlers out there some support in these tough times. Play a game at the Olympic stadium and open the gates for instance....Great promotion for the game and a feel good start for the year after the disgrace that was the 2008 centenary season

Just my thoughts...

Cheers,
Moffo

Looks like a bumper year with money flooding into League! Onya Moffo!

While you are at it, can you predict Parra for the spoon and Manly, Melbourne, Brisbane, Easts, Souths, Titans, Canterbury, Saints, Newy, NZ, Canberra, Cronulla, Penriff, Wests and the Cowpats for the premiership please?

If clubs make memberships really good deals then it may work in our favour with more people signing up for memberships to save money.

I think most clubs already have memberships sorted out re: prices etc.

IMHO its not the admission price that hurts; its the food at the games that soak up precious $$$. Maybe combo deals at games will help. Get a warm beer and cold hot dog for $20

The food and drink is where the majority of the profit comes in. Kinda like at the movies. You can have the biggest box office hit and you'll still make squat on ticket sales, after paying for the reel.

They'll have to reduce admission prices or crowds will be around 3-4000 at games.

It depends on who is affected.
If it is the financial institutions that are cutting costs - then corporate packages to the rah-rah might be cut.
If it is people losing their jobs in all industries then it will definitely affect crowds.

RL doesn't have crowds as a major source of income compared to other codes (TV is and will be the same) but if crowds drop it does have some affect

This year had high interest rates, high food prices and high petrol prices. Provided you still have a job, then 2009 should see people with a bit of extra cash

I predict it will be similar to last season. Clubs that don't see membership/STH increases will have poor crowds if they are playing poorly, it rains or the opposition are nobodies.

Which is why STs should be pushed so hard.

if the economic climate doesnt improve before the season starts, then crowds will drop %100.

Drop 100%? So in short Rugby League will have an average attendance of 1 for 2009?

I guess we should take the games back to the parks then, if we only have to accommodate for 1 person per match...

i mainly was referring to crowds

anyone who doesn't see the potential for this to impact crowds has their head firmly in the sand.
