The Tank: Fantastic cinematography and best watched in deutsch for authenticity. They used a restored Tiger 1 (couldn’t make out if it was a Tiger II) and whilst it’s no “Fury”, it’s a decent movie.

Steve: Stars Cillian Murphy. Tells a story of a disadvantaged/criminal youth school from the perspective of the teachers wanting to do their best for the students. It’s based on the book, which is a fantastic read and is well written.

I related more than others who have watched it as my siblings and I were raised under state guardianship and the film is very accurate in its depiction. 9/10

his/hers: Netflix mini series based on the book. Jon Bernthal is fantastic. It’s not your usual crime/thriller and when you think you’ve got the suspect nailed, a twist follows until the very end. Fantastic writing and very true to the book, which is worth reading for crime drama lovers.

I’ve watched so much TV lately but those were my recommendations for now. I’d provide more detailed feedback but CBFd :D

28 Years Later. Bone Temple. 8

Big step up from last years effort.

Fienes was great.

Glad I saw it on the big screen, but not sure it is worth it on non tight arse Tuesday nights.
I thought it was fantastic, Jack O'Connell nailed his part too (edit - no pun intended there either haha)

I might give it a watch. 28 Years Later felt like those exercises in school where one kid writes the first half of a story, then another kid has to finish it. Weird movie.
I agree. I just watched 28 Years Later (2025). It was weird. I do like the:
steroid zombie, the Alpha. But it tries to do too much. Zombie should be doom and gloom, not the ending with the laughing ninja shit.

I finally got around to watching Weapons. It was good 7/10ish. But it seems like the police should have solved this crime pretty early on.

Very typical Japanese storytelling - starts here, finishes there.
I liked it a lot, the main actor Yakusho Koji is one of my favourite Japanese actors, he's been in a heap of really good movies. It's slow and nothing much happens but it holds your attention and I found it really satisfying. 7/10

Rental Family 2025
Another Japanese film. My wife's Japanese so I tend to get dragged along to see any that play in the local cinemas.
I thought this was going to be a fish out of water comedy but far from it, it's an exploration of relationships basically. Gets pretty emotional in parts. Brendan Fraser, I thought was a little out of his depth at first but warmed into the roll as the story went along and ended up doing a really decent job of what was a difficult and demanding role. Not really my type of movie but I enjoyed it and my wife loved it quite a lot. 7/10

Some recent films

Kill Squad (1981): I'd be mighty impressed if anybody here heard of the film, never mind seen it. As a kid, I lapped up martial arts movies and this was a movie of my childhood era. A grindhouse style of movie about a guy who enlists his old Vietnam War buddies to help him find the killers of his wife. There is only one prolific actor in the entire production......and if you asked me any other movie Cameron Mitchell was in, I could not tell you. A movie made in the 80s but well and truly grounded in the 70s. No political correctness in this movie at all. In all honesty, most would rate this a 1 star but Im giving it a 3 due to the funny politically incorrect dialogue....a bad movie rules type movie. The pimp who is one of the heroes is an absolute hoot. 3 out of 5.

Upgrade: This one surprised me. Made by the makers of "Saw", this Australian action movie really drew me in. A well-paced, futuristic action movie. 3 out of 5.

Fatal Attraction: There have been lover turned stalker movies made before this one and they will be made well into the future. But, this one is the best of the genre. Michael Douglas is so good in this type of movie but the best performance is by Glenn Close. She managed to not ham her performance up yet nailed her performance of a character drifting into madness. A repeat watch. 5 out of 5.

The Stranger: A Steve Austin action movie. The man is probably tied with the Rock in terms of being the best speaker on the mic in wrestling. But by f**k, his acting is so damn wooden. I watched it about a week ago and already forgot the majority of it. It was a bore. 0 out of 5.

Unbreakable: Personally, my favourite M Night Shyamalan film but can definitely understand an argument for The Sixth Sense as well. The director can be very hit and miss but I love that he has a genuine crack at trying different things in his movies. 5 out of 5.

Starship Troopers: My first watch of this movie. Definitely a fun movie to watch that doesn't take itself too seriously. The love triangle was soppy stuff and Denise Richards didn't really sell to me that she is a spaceship pilot....but, a fun film. 3 out of 5.

Malice: The 90s did thrillers in a good, slick way and this movie is no exception. The Alec Baldwin part was played so well. 3 out of 5.

The Wiz: I had not seen this one since I was 6. A Motown version of the Wizard of Oz with Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor. I love Motown music but I sadly failed to connect with this film. A lot went into this though with the music and dance numbers. 2 out of 5.

American Badger. A low budget hitman film. It was ok, nothing to raise it more than that. 2 out of 5.

Hide and Seek: I really enjoyed this movie with De Niro and Fanning. Good performances and a very solid story. A strong 3 out of 5 for me.

Midnight Express (1978). I'd never heard of this film, but decided to Google it after I heard the term "midnight express" the other day and discovered it. This is a compelling and captivating film that keeps you interested right until the end. 8.5/10.

Had a plane flight so caught up on a few.

Bugonia. 8. Emma Stone and Jessie Plemmons were excellent. Couple of Surelys mates kidnap an executive who they believe is an alien.

Splitsville. 8.5. Laughed a lot at this one. Had a brilliant fight scene. Essentially about 2 couples, one in an open relationship .

Good Things. 7. By no means great cinema and very watchable. Low level angel switches a rich Seth Rogens life with a struggling Aziz Ansari?.

Roofman. 6. Based on a true story about a burglar. Was watchable.

Glass Onion, A Knives Out Mystery.

Was at the brother in laws place in Taree and flicked through his netflix channel and this popped up.
What a fun, silly and hilarious ride. At the start i was thinking WTF is going on and then i started to get Death On the Nile and Evil Under The Sun vibes with the set up of the ensemble cast. What i loved is it didn't take itself seriously, Kate Hudson is a scream.

An incredible film. The whole movie is tense but the first 20 minutes are unbelievably tense. I had the pleasure of reading William Hayes autobiography. There are some liberties' taken in the film version but make no mistake......his description of his struggles with the Turkish legal system and struggles in a Turkish jail were harrowing stuff. A shame Brad Davis' career never kicked on. He had a brother named Gene Davis who played the main villain in a Charles Bronson movie called 10 to Midnight. He never kicked on either.
