What the Knights can learn from the top sides

Bring It, you're going to have to consult your history books once again. How was the Knights defence up until the moving of Kidley (the be all and end all) to 5/8, and how'd it go afterwards?

Pretty simple, huh? It was a shame Johns got hurt and the Knights went back into their one-game-on, one-game-off attitude.

Now what were the win/loss records for those combinations? You know, the ones you kept track of for a while then decided it wasn't suiting your arguement very well.

Oh well, Kurt will be the 5/8 next year for certain ... unless we sign anyone else... anyone like Witt... but we'll still chase guys like Dorn as well... Hmmm... doesn't sound like Kurt is all that certain now afterall. I don't seem to recall much halve hunting this time last year. In fact, didn't we let Morris go this time last year? Yup. Didn't the Knights re-sign Rudder last year as well. Yup.

Surely your mates could've told you the basics like this before you try to take me on, Bring It. It would've saved you the heartache.

The Knights produced sporadic moments of defensive muscle - there were times during the season when they looked brutal - but I would suggest that a combined total equivalent to one or two games at the best is just not good enough at all.

I believe you can use injuries as a reason for this - but not an excuse, because there is a difference. I'd suggest that when the top side is there they do in fact work better together, but you lose a Kennedy or a Simpson and suddenly the whole structure falls apart.

Even when they were all there, working "better together" still wasn't/isn't good enough compared to other brutal teams. The Knights have a long way to go, especially with regards to consistency throughout a half, a whole match, and dare I suggest...a season.

The Roosters are the benchmark, the Warriors seem to be bruising on their day, yet the Knights have moments of dominance - perhaps a whole set of six in defence if you're lucky, but never whole halves or even a game.

You're not going to reach perfection, but the Knights must work on their defence during the off-season, or else the bottom of the eight is where we will linger.

I agree 100% with what you said chook.

In the last 13 months the Knights have gone zero and seven against the two teams that played last night. THAT is the sign of just how far behind the best teams we have become. Wholesale change is needed for depth and just to stay competitive. This season was a disaster, the best season of football and we only just fell into the top half of the competition.

There was nothing in this year that made me think the Knights will become automatically competitive without massive changes. There's no point in saying they are capable with who they have because they simply weren't.
