St George and Illawarra merge their NSW 1st Division (as it then was) teams. I know 1st grade merged for 1999 but did their reserves merge then or was it later?

Their Reserves did not merge right away but they were only separate for a couple of years. Not sure when the exact merger took place. Maybe 2001 or 2002.

Obviously they couldn't be an NRL team but I agree it's a shame the Steelers couldn't keep a Premier Division team
