I put that question to the audience.
This year was an absolute shocker, we can all agree on that.
But gee, our recruitment this year has been nothing more than sensational in my opinion.
For the first time in a number of years we have a glut of young enthusiastic backs that are all playing for a limited number of guernseys.
Our forward stocks are good (maybe one more prop could help).
For mine, there is so much to be optimistic about.
Jason Smith - Sure maybe a bit old but we have been craving for an organisational half and he will serve that position well. I may eat my words but if he is half the player he was when he left the competition he will be a HUGE signing. For us to moan about getting somebody like J Smith and then whinge I find completely ludicrous.
Matt Adamson - Again, he is a 'better than average' player of which I believe some of the younger guys can really look up to.
The Centres, Wings and Fullback - No matter which way you look at it - our backline is going to have a lot more venom than it has for many, many years.
Youth - Our squad is young (bar a couple who bump the average age up) and will be around for many years to come.
Elliot - I have been critical of him but I truly believe that his 'grand plan' is slowly coming to fruition.
Withers - Great buy!!! He will only get better as well. Both clubs that have had him (excluding us) will tell you that he is the real deal. Give the guy a chance and he will deliver - no matter what position you put him in.
Enthusiasm and Competition - Those two ingredients will ensure we have our best performances I believe, week in, week out for 2005.
Macca Gooooooooorne - If he was to perform, he would have done it by now. His had his eyes on the ESL for a number of years now. Honestly, with the competition that has been brought to the club, I think he may have gone on "when the going gets tough, the weak go to England" train of thought. I think this may be a real blessing in disguise. As stated before, his potential was there but there comes a time when he needs to be accountable. We can't just wait for somebody like macca to perform. Be it Smith, Carney, Campese or Withers that takes the No.7, we will be much, much stronger in defence.
So come on guys! Heaps to be happy about!!!!! I think we will be a real force next year....
