When is it too hot to play?

In extreme heat, should games be delayed until after sunset?

1. Re: drinks breaks, the clubs apparently agreed to not have them.
2. The players train longer, harder and hotter than any game, all through summer. What are you gonna do, ban pre-season training too?
3. Re: Drinks breaks part 2. The players receive hydration at every possible break in the game. An extra few minutes is gonna do bugger all. Thanks to Parra's defence they received about 10 extra drinks breaks. I don't think another 2 was gonna help them.

Lol, anyone who thinks its tough to work out in the hot sun deserves to die of heatstroke.

Used to work for NSW Rail rail as a track ganger. Ppl used to ask me how the hell could I do that kind of work all day. I tell them that once you get going, you get used to it,until you come in the shade for a smoko and lunch.

But by and large,it's not as hard as you think. Not comparing me to a footballer. But when you are super fit, eating healthy stuff and have been training months for exactly this scenario, they know what they are doing.

Parra players were serving the drinks in the stands.

It was 38°C when the Eels v Manly match begun today. By half-time it had reached 40°C. Should the game have gone ahead or should it have been delayed until after sunset? When does player safety become more important than the NRL's love of money?
The sport makes commitments. These are elite athletes. Games must go ahead unless it's not possible. I'm all for drinks breaks in hot conditions. Don't know why they aren't happening, especially when they stop the game so often for HIA's and to find out how to restart play after a try has not been scored.

I doubt they do Adam. Not the train harder part but the hotter part. Most outdoor training in summer is in the morning or evening outside of the hottest parts of the day which is exactly what they should in the first month of the season (evening games obviously).

Parra fans whinging that it was too hot to be playing should be directing all the hate at Brad Arthur (not the NRL officials) after he forced his team to do a 40min training sesh BEFORE kickoff - ON THE FIELD. Barrett got our side to do light drills in the sheds. Stupidity.

AFL players play in tank tops in some of the coldest conditions, and NRL plays in polyester skin tight tops in 40c.

Bizarro worlds.

The 'evening' in summer is often the hottest part of the day. Out here only training twice a week starting mid-January and we had at least 5 sessions at 6pm where it was 40+

"By halftime it had reached 40 degrees"?

WTF?

No it hadn't, the temperature had DROPPED by nearly a degree.

f**k people say a lot of shit without any basis.

There was a basis actually. The Foxtel commentary team at the venue said it had reached 40 at half-time.
