Where Have We Heard This Before

I find it amusing living over here in New Zealand and listening to the media take on the Warriors and especially Daniel Anderson.
Prior to the win over Manly on the weekend the radio sport talkback over here has been full of calls for Andersons head and players to be dropped and that it's all Anderson's fault as he has become stale in the job and works the team too hard etc.
Even the mole in the Rugby League Week got into the act with the following quote

"Players are telling their Australian based managers about the lack of spirit in the club this season. And there seems to be a common denominator - Coach Daniel Anderson. The man who took the kiwis to a grand final in 2002 and within one win of the big one last year is demanding and drives his players hard and some are starting to get restless"

To me it's plain ridiculous to be calling for the mans head when you look at
1) Their recent injury toll and players only just returning from injury
2) The quality of players lost
3) Anderson's track record at the club in turning it around

Gee, I wonder where i've heard all this before ...

A bit harsh you would think at this stage of the season to be making those calls about Anderson, but it could be on the money. However, if the Team doesnt make the Top 8 at the end of the season there will be calls for him to move on I am sure.

Yeak look how successful they were with their "wonderful" kiwi coaches!!! Just another reason for that lot over the ditch to blame us for their misgivings!!!

Nobody should be saying Daniel Anderson deserves the sack. They've made the finals (and a gf) 3 years in a row with him as coach, while their previous coaches had them battling for the spoon each yr. Their logic mystifies me.

Ok but Brian Smith who took a team in 1997 that had not made the finals in the last 10 years to the finals form the next 6 years and then only missing the top 8 by 1 win in the 7th year does??

I don't think you can compare the 2 situations. Brian Smith and Parramatta have unperformed for the last 2 seasons and look like doing so this year also. I'll always be thankful of what Brian Smith has done for the club, he's given me a winning football side to cheer for during the last 7 years. However, I think at this stage maybe he has had his run. These days coaches seem to have a shelf life at a particular club and it just seems that at this time Parramatta need some fresh blood. On the other hand Daniel Anderson transformed the Warriors from cellar dwellers to premiership heavyweights, a few early losses against quality sides in his 4th year shouldn't mean people are calling for his head.

With the money they spent back then I could have coached them into the top 8.

Hilditch had the likes of the 4 canterbury boys + Ritson, Raper, Barnes, Johnston, Maybon and Freeman in 1996.

Ritson got injured in the round 20 (from memory) game v Raiders @ Parramatta.

and the Eels still missed the 8 it was a freakishly similar year to 2003. The Eels needed to beat Penrith by about 16 pts in the final round to make the finals but ended up losing by about 10.
