Dustin Martin's decision to field offers from other clubs will certainly have set the cat amongst the pigeons. Right now all AFL clubs could be looking at their list and their finances and going what if? Can we get the deal done?

But where is Martin most likely to go to? Here's a few contenders

The NRL have had a tough time in recent weeks. But what a good news story it may be for the embattled code but to bloody the AFL's nose by luring Martin to the game. A few years back Sportal ran a story raising this possibility, one that became more realistic following Karmichael Hunt and Israel Folau's defection to AFL.

Martin has something of an NRL background as he spent time with his Kiwi-born father in Sydney's south-west during his teens. A powerful mover and good decision maker, Martin may be a good investment for the NRL in a bid to combat some of the recent negative publicity surrounding the Sharks, Sandor Earl and referees who can't count. The NRL would have to relax some salary cap rules to nab him but Melbourne Storm football manager Frank Ponissi said two years ago he could be a chance.

Martin may be a good investment for Essington given the negative publicity the author is trying to pretend doesn't exist.

What the Anglo-Irish game players don't understand is that because the game is so one dimentional in its geographic spread and appeal. When it all go's belly up for them they have no other sporting options. More kids in the southern states should play Rugby League, then if they are not good enough for that they can always go to union.
