Where would you play Pryce in GB team ?

My order of preference would be:
Fullback - room to move would be awesome but won't happen because they will pick Wellens.
Centre - would also go well in the centres with his all round attacking ability, Senior and Gleeson will probably get first chance.
Wing - i like the idea of having big wingers and he fits the bill, more than likely thats where Noble will play him if we use the June test as a guide.
Five-eighth - they might play him there, a lot depends on how McGuire goes on friday.
Interchange bench - i don't think so, he'll be in the starting lineup

Five-eighth - He and Long have a good combo and he needs to be involved.
I now accept that Wellens will be the fullback so that is out. So how bout this. f**k Newton off altogether. Roby to start, he might not do it normally but he's good enough. McGuire to come from the bench.
If Newton, Wellens ans McGuire play it's hard to find a spot for Pryce. Wing seems like a waste but it would be better than nothing. Horne is another one who it's hard to fit in even though he is a handy player to have in the side... somewhere.

What about lock for Horne? He's played there before and while he's not really a lock it might be the place for him. He won't have to do run the show but he could play as a five eighth on one side with Pryce or McGuire on the other. He's just good to have because he seems to be able to find himself in space, or in support of a break and he has a knack of scoring tries. Of course Cook should be lock but it seems that ainst gonna happen.

Its a tough call.I would be tempted to play him at stand off so he could run at Thurston and Locky. But what happens to McQuire then? Tough call!

Pryce could handle any of the positions mentioned.

In my view we're most likely to see him picked as the 2nd winger (a real weak spot in the squad for mine), or possibly centre. I think Wellens will be picked and he seems plavour of the month, but Pryce would really go well in a roving fullback role where he could chime in anywhere he pleases in attack.

I'd pick Pryce at Fullback, he played there last year when Wellens got injured and they looked more dangerous.

I'd stick Wellens at Left side centre, just to close one side of the field down. They have no real attacking weapons there anyway, so you're no losing anything.

Cooke should be 5/8.

No way should Wellens be at centre. He's far too slow to play there, plus the likes of Yeaman would be a lot better.

I think Yeaman definitely deserves a go. Not so sure Raynor should be on a wing ahead of Pryce though.

Who will be the centres out of Senior/Gleeson/Yeaman? Will Noble run with the tried and test pair of Senior/Gleeson or will he give Yeaman the nod?

Leon Pryce should play stand off, with Long at scrum half.

Simply because Pryce is a far, far better player than Danny McGuire. Pryce is better with the ball in hand and is a better passer and a better kicker. He is also a mean defensive unit. McGuire on the other hand is a one trick pony who should never be trusted with anything more than a bench spot.

And suggesting Paul Wellens should be dropped is absolutely ridiculous. He is the current Man of Steel and just won Man of the Match in the Grand Final. St Helens defense this season has been absolutely amazing. He along with Cunningham is the backbone of that. He positions himself better than any fullback in the game, defuses kicks better than any fullback in the game and he tackles better than any fullback in the game.

Putting Pryce to fullback might make us marginally better in attack, but there would be about 5 or 6 times per half of every game in which we would be put under severe pressure as Pryce wouldn't deal with the situations like Wellens would. I'd go as far as saying Wellens being on the field is worth 18 points or so to GB per game, thats how good he is.

Without Cunningham, who is GB's only world class creative player we won't score enough points to win any of the Tri Nations games. My local bookies is running pretty decent odds at the moment for GB to go through the Tri Nations without scoring a try. GB are awful at the moment so moving players around needlessly to try and match how the game is played in the NRL wouldn't help much.

Richard Horne at loose forward:lol:

I agree Pryce would be exiting at GB stand-off, but I think that would then make for a glaring weak spot on the wings, one that could be exploited for points by the other side.

To me it doesn't so much come down to Pryce v Maguire, but actually to Maguire v Raynor/Aspinwall - which one could you most live with in your 13? And then Pryce, because of his versatility and talent, shifts to fill the gap.

If he is named on the wing I'd love to see Leon be given a roving role in the attack, to be able to chime in centre-field, but I don't think Noble has something like that in him. I just read a post in the International section claiming GB was someone's tip to win the tournament! With the squad chosen I just hope they aim up in the forwards, and don't make it too easy for other sides to pressure and shut down Sean Long, and seems to have happened in the past without another attacking option alongside or behind him.

You talk a lot of sense as always. I was mentally blacking out the wing position to be honest.

Pryce on the wing is probably the only likely outcome, but I feel dropping Wellens would be suicide given the frailties in the rest of the side at the moment.

Having watched Saints/Long make their vital inroads at the expense of Tony and Raynor yesterday, I think any international coach would do the same up against eithe rof them on the wing.

Wellens is solid and reliable at the back, and as you say is usally perfectly positioned, and the best last line of defence in the competition. GB will definitely need that to get by, especially going in with what will probably be limited attacking options elsewhere.

In a non-Noble team there might be room for a ball-playing, play-making option at loose forward, or a convert filling that role in position. Sculthorpe at his best could do it, but Sculthorpe at his best probably did that more at stand off? Newton is such a poor option I feel, and his inclusion as a starter limits the flexibility of the rest of the side and bench and the attacking creativity available.

Newton is a poor option.I would have loved to see Paul Cooke get a go.He fits the bill perfectly as a ball playing loose forward.

Pryce on the wing for me.

And while we're talking about him, I don't mind admitting I'm one of Terry Newton's few fans..
