A discussion took place at work this week and the three Souths supporters (yes they do have some) were adament that the Souths partnership was better than the one offered by the Roosters. They also claim you have no juniors.

Could you please let me know your thoughts..

We've got plenty of Juniors.

24 teams ranging from A grade to under 7's. We have pleayers picked from our sides to represent south sydney juniors in several matches last year, as well as several international players.

souths were just trying to gain a monopoly on the juniors. They have cut the roosters out of pretty much everywhere else, including roosters heartlands (for serious want of a better term as the roosters have less fans than the rabbits) and now want all the juniors to themselves from the cooks river to bondi.

Souths idea of a partnership is to although owing the club hundreds of thousands of dollars to dump us like sh*t three weeks prior to kick-off in season 2004, leaving us in the lurch without a proper side( although having experienced the same thing from the NRL themselves ) and then ringing up and stealing our Captain Garth WOOD and as many players as humanly possible ( human used loosely ) without fair warning at all just cause at the last moment they find out they can field their South Junior side in the Jim beam Cup. f**k EM !!!!

The crowd figures show that the Roosters have more supporters than Souths in going to games. 17,999 to 11,000. I believe the Roosters are well supported over a greater of the league world because of the Vermins continual club infighting which won't be solved by the election coming up. Contrary to Souths fans you hardly see a Souths jumper in the country, possibly in some communities. Souths just do not appeal to the younger generation - In fact where I come from the most supported clubs are Bulldogs, Brisbane and Roosters. This is based on sales at our local sports store. Funny thing is that even though the town is in the Canberra area you don't see many Raider jumpers etc either.

Wests g/f win didn't have much effect on the sale of their merchandise

What Souths offer?

Souths and Newtown had a deal a few years ago. Souths promised that they would send players and did nothing. Newtown stuck by their end of the bargain, even releasing David Fa'alogo to you. Then along came Souths Juniors who said "drop those Jets because our Jim Beam Cup team competes with them and we want to be an exclusive partner. Do it Souths because we give you millions". Souths did drop Newtown - BY EMAIL! Then Newtown had to threaten Souths with closing their Leagues Club for Newtown to get ONE player, althoug by the time that one player was with us, the deal was well and truly over.

Souths did not offer Newtown anything else. What Newtown had with Souths was half an NRL team because Souths still had their own PL team. In favct, considering what little Souths, Newtown had even less.

This deal with the Roosters is one THE BEST offer Newtown has. The only thing it can be comapred to would be Cronulla's offer for 2006 onwards. And this one is streets ahead.

As for the Juniors, the Newtown JRLFC players do sport Souths Juniors patches but a special deal struck with the NSWRL sees that Newtown JRLFC players are considered Newtown RLFC players when it comes to development fees etc.

Ozzie, tell your Souths upporting mates to check their facts. With ignorance like that, it sounds like they'd be voting No.

So that would explain why Newtown Junior Jets and St Peters are playing in the Souths Juniors. Are there any other Newtown junior clubs doing the same (see page 15 of the Big League

I'm out of touch with the number of junior clubs still currently standing in our area (hey, forgive me - I'm living in China fer feck's sake), but since we came back in Premier League, I believe the increase in junior clubs has been, on a percentage basis, pretty impressive.

Currently, within our old boundaries, I believe we have:

Camperdown Dragons
Marrickville RSL
Newtown Jnr Jets
Earlwood Saints (St. George comp)
St. Peters

The creation of the Junior Jets and re-activation of St Peters mean our old district has had a dramatic resurgence in youth participation in RL. Most of it is no thanks at all to Souths (the seniors, especially).

The better question is how amazingly crap a job Souths and the other clubs who were handed our junior area after 1983 have done of maintaining junior participation in our sport.

Former Newtown junior clubs were treated as expendable by Souths, Canterbury, St George and possibly Balmain (I'm unsure whether the Tigers got any of our clubs) once they got them in their clutches post our suspension from the top grade.

Can anyone list all the clubs they let go under on their watch? A list of clubs pre '83 Vs post 2000 would be very revealing. I believe they all failed dismally in their stewardship of the junior game over that time.

I've met parents of Junior Jets players who are overjoyed with the experience of having their kids able to play RL in their home area and the social/developmental benefits they and their kids have received.

If it had been left up to Souths and the others, our area would have no RL clubs still standing - much less the current resurgence of the game in Bluebag territory.

And that one player they gave us Jeffles was Russel RICHARDSON who was a great player for us, however when we started to win a few games they took him back again, and he wore the Souths jersey against us in the latter part of the season.

And to think in my naivity I had a soft spot for Souths as they were mistreated by the NRL. Said it before, and say it again........F**K Souths, and I look forward to playin them three times this season and watch our boys carve them into Bunny Burgers !!!

Do you know if Newtown give any assistance to those clubs.
Does Newtown pay South's juniors for them to play in the comp or has South's juniors taken them completley.

Its not as much a laugh as paying Souths seniors :).

The Roosters pay South's juniors for their affliated junior clubs to play in the South's juniors competition.

We need the Newtown District back. Still enter in the souths comp but we need jurisdiction over our clubs.

If Newtown controlled the clubs mentioned above but still had them particpating in souths juniors we would have far more control over what was going on.

also the St George comp is dying. I jumped off that ship a couple of years ago. Played all my junior footy with St Josephs then played schoolboys. After that went to Penshurst RSL. Garbage. The A grade comp has 7 teams. It is crap football. Earlwood would do a lot better if they came back to Newtown District.

I'm sure if they could afford it, Newtown would go back to the league and ask for the District back.

Newtown only provide assistance to Newtown JRLFC. Unfortunatrely they are not in a position to help the other old clubs.

TDT-1's list is complete of the current clubs. Several have gone extinct since 1983.

We do have a good relationship with people at Camperdown, St Peters etc. You see a lot of shirts at our games.
