Who among you had the testicles to see Black Sabbath last week?

I saw them at Newy. Absolutely awesome. Geezer Butler has to be in the top 5 bassmen of all time - what a workhorse. Dio's still got the voice, even though he makes Roy Bell look like Goliath.

Monster sound, great lighting, and my frontal lobes are recovering nicely from the gentle thwack, thwack, thwack against the front of my cranium.

Metallica have nothing on Sabbath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im sure Metallica agree with you.

No mention of Iommi at all? How he has lost nothing?

Yet you choose to mention Geezer instead and then try to put sh*t on metallica in the same sentence, Go f**k yourself!

P.S Cliff Burton sh*ts all over Geezer, not because he was in Metallica but because its fact ;-)

Geezer's still living, dipsh*t. Burton? What did he ever do. Oh yeah. Whiplash LOL.

Iommi? Still the master, but he did nothing more that I have seen him do before. Geezer amazed me because I didn't realised how much he contributed to the music, especially in Sign of the Southern Cross. I didn't mention Vinnie, either. Should I have?

I like Metallica, but im not one of those insular types that thought Metal started with Kill Them All and ended with St Anger. To me, Metallica are recycled Sabbath, and there is noting wrong with that. However, I knew I'd score a bite from some loon who thinks Metallica is the ants pants. And I did.

Nothing Metallica has ever done can match Sabath for sheer heavyness. One could say the same about Def Leppard, too, and their fans would accept it as fact. Metallica  support.

Pmsl ye of little knowledge. I have always thanked Iommi, Butler and Ward for pretty much creating Metal. It all started with them three, ozzy just sang along.

The reason I bit was, you are just another dumbass who only knows of like three bands in existence and judging by this thread they would be Sabbath, Metallica and Led Zepplin.

Have you ever listened to GZR? Bet you couldnt tell me without doing a google.

I dont think Metallica are the Ants pants, I listen to a lot more metal than that, judging by your mainstream themed arguement maybe you should do yourself a favour and expand your listening library.

I bet my left nut you have a copy of wolfmothers album? they dont rip off any sabbath at all do they? Whilst metallica? well theres nothing original about them, the whole thrash scene was a myth started by jimmy page :p

I thought it was pronounced G//Z/R myself. No, I haven't heard Ohmwork yet, not likely to for a while, as Geezer has stated that he's not bothered by low sales,as he is financially supported by Sabbath anyway.

Oh, and you are half Eunich already. I own nothing of Wolfmother. Should I? Do they do a rivetting version of Dirty Women or Snowblind?

Nice quick Google attempt yourself. Jimmy Page is probably the most famous metal pioneer of all (you would have impressed me with you depth of knowledge had you mentioned lesser knowns like Gene Simmons or Angus Young), but the pioneer more responsible for Thrash was a bloke called Lemmy Kilminster, of the band Motorhead, who, ironically, will ALSO play in Newcastle in a few months time, and will ALSO crap all over Metallica.

I'm sure Motorhead will be accessed via Google for you. If that doesn't work, stick a couple of dots over the two "o"s. Shouldn't be too hard for a computer genius like yourself. ;-)

Saw them in Sydney and it was bloody awesome. First of all, DIO!!!! Apparently this guy is something like 65 years old, and I can't think of too many better vocalists. he absolutely killed it, what a singer! And Iommi and Butler were in top form also, cannot fault the night at all (besides the drum solo which was somewhat bearable).

I dig Dio-era Sabbath so it was amazing to hear Heaven and Hell, Neon Knights, Die Young etc. in such a great show.

No Ozzy = No Sabbath

Its almost as bad as the Roger Waters Pink Floyd show WITHOUT Pink Floyd, or the pink Floyd show WITHOUT Roger Waters. Very sad :( Thank God Floyd has finally patched up their differences ...

I love all Sabbath eras. My fave album is Sabotage, and I also love the Headless Cross/TYR era. But Dio held the Sabbath tenure together. Much more professional than the hit-and-miss Ozzy era.

Ron, I was dissapointed that they didn't fit in Country Girl. Southern Cross went for about 20 minutes, and this is here I discovered that the jews harp effect is actually done on the bass, hence my admiration of Geezer.

Trollhammaren, I recently got a DVD or Rainbow circa 1977, with a younger Dio, and he held the band together and made the hight, whilst Blackmore was too busy trying to play Mozart. His voice hasn't changed, but if ever they needed someone to play Gollam in a stage production of Lord Of The Rings......

OVP, I bet your latest album purchase was either Focus or Steppenwolf.

I have that too mate. I think I have everything covered in regards to Dio. All his solo stuff, Sabbath stuff, and even his Elf albums (for something different), and you're right, his voice is still the same. Unbelievable really.

But I think Dio-ear Sabs is probably his best stuff IMO.

I've been getting into Tony Martin Sabs as well recently, and that guy can sing also!

 I really dont think I have to do a google for the only man in the entire world thats permitted to smoke in the Rainbow Bar and Grill.

Your reference of Lemmy being a pioneer of thrash is somewhat ludicrous when you have left out Bands like Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Judas Priest and Angel Witch.
Yes the NWOBHM or New Wave of British Heavy Metal for all you Led Zepplin tragics, of which Lemmy was a part of (one mark for effort, lets not forget Hawkwind shall we ;) )

What is also LMAO is your reference to Jimmy Page as the most famous metal pioneer of all  I dont begrudge this bloke of being a great guitarist but seriously, he was just another blues player with a fuzzbox, ala hendrix.

Iommi was the first true metal guitarist and always will be, his riffs were 20 yrs ahead of their time.

LOL. Maiden and Priest at THRASH pioneers? I guess Abba were death metal pioneers as well? FMD!

Anglewitch? Poor Sabbath clones that never made it out of the pubs and faded into obscurity about a sparrows fart after the dawn of the eighties?

And frighteningly close to some of the stuff Pete Townshend did as well. I think you will find that Page is better known that Iommi, and the comparison to Jimi is fluff - totally different styles.
