England are likely to play New Zealand in Wellington and Papua New Guinea in Christchurch in next year's Four Nations series.

The New Zealand Rugby League is keen to hold the opening game of the tournament on 23 October at Wellington to mark the centenary of England's first game in the country in 1910, although it has still to receive assurances that the city's Westpac Stadium – better known as the Cake Tin, where Great Britain suffered a heavy defeat by the Kiwis in 2006 – will not be required for rugby union on that day.

The NZRL has then proposed staging England's game against the Kumuls as a curtain-raiser to New Zealand's game against Australia in Christchurch the following weekend.

England will then play Australia in Melbourne on 6 November with the final in Brisbane seven days later.
