I also think, for whatever reason, the current coaching staff are going to struggle to admit his faults. Too much talk and investment in him, despite his limitations.

Thats been my #1 complaint under the Price Reign, he is stubborn as a mule, and I respect it from the perspective of giving a player a genuine crack, but hes not doing anyone any favours when he forces a player out of position, and cant forsee hes not coping... examples such as Chase @ 6, Kyle @ 1, Vidot @ 2, Green @ Anywhere (there are more but these are my pet hates), no amount of persistence is going to help if you get the wrong skillset in the wrong position and cant see what's occurring in front of you.

To me these were season killers, and not to be confused with some of the fan discontent around say Hornby/Fein or Chase@3 who you can at least create an argument for experience/lack-of-options/structure, very different.

Bennett was just as stubborn though, some of his decisions with Scott & Prior @ Centre for example, or changing the team structure after our attack was shown to be flailing.. he would persist and persist.. I found it frustrating, but the thing with Bennett is he mostly got it right, either that or the players would lift for him and play to his gameplan, either way he got away with a lot more than Price can.

Well said..what about Fein at 7... Didn't work all season..then I think it was last round and he switches him to Hooker and he plays a blinder. Without wanting to sound to negative I am exited about the players we have recruited ( still need a few big Bopper forwards ) but Price really concerns me. Hope he proves me wrong, Cheers.

Fein I think is in a different basket, he should never have been in a position where he had to be our #1 halfback but the way it panned out with missed recruitment, and injuries you can atleast understand the argument for it.. but the other players were just terrible terrible lack of foresight, how long did he persist with Chase @6 for example, season was over by the time he finally gave in.. dear lord.

We were in a world of hurt before the season even started last year with our poor recruitment. I really don't think any coach could have done much better with the roster. I have obviously been a supporter of Price mainly because I think he didn't have a huge choice in last 2 seasons and Bennett obviously seen something in him to keep him as an assistant. This year Price is spoilt for choice across the park and if he f**ks up selections and plays people out of position when better players are available I will be one of the first to call for his head.

Yep. Price needs to actually coach what he has not try to create things that aren't there. There is no room for favourites. And being a good guy shouldn't get you a place in the side.

I agree. It's as if somebody advised him (probably Wayne Bennett)

...and said 'look Steve, if you are consistent and persistent, praise your player's efforts and stick with them, you will be successful'

True, but having the judgement of when to be what is what's missing in our emerging coach. Call it "coaching what's in front of him" or "situational awareness", whatever, SP hasn't got that developed yet.

That's why his persistence is construed as stubborness, his consistency is construed as a lack of ideas, and his praise of player's efforts ...well, at times it was just rubbish, embarrassing even - like he was watching the wrong archive.

I thought Michael Witt would get the back up hooker role. Why else would they have got him for?

Did anyone find out who they were actually referring to in the article?

if someone like Stanley is going to train at hooker to boost depth there Witt is probably there to boost halves depth.

Or at least as a back up until his next injury.
Saying that, I do not wish an injury on anyone but poor old Stanley appears to be made of glass. I hope he proves me wrong and Tim Sheens ends up at The Warriors !
