It's a negative thread entitled "who is / was worse" so what do you expect for an answer?OMG, relentless negativity.
Glad you came back to the forum.
Everyone needs you to feel good about themselves.....
McCrone reminds me of Nathan Fien when he was our first choice half in the Price years.
Forced to fill in after an injuty and doing the best he can.
He's warming the seat for Ben Hunt, but he's effectively a reggies player so not sure what people expect ?
Fein wasn't that bad. 2010 hero.
He wasn't playing half in 2010. Was the backup hooker like McCrone should be now if Hutch didn't go down.
I remember Fien got slammed pretty badly on this forum when he was our first choice half under Price.
I have a lot of respect for McCrone as a player. Forget aptitude for a minute.I get the criticism of Mcrone especially his kicking game BUT tonight I'm in admiration the TEAM after they pulled off such a gutsy comeback win. Mcrone played his part I have no doubt. Would have been easy to just let that game go after being 18 points down at half time. Long way to go I know but I just get an inkling this year we have more spirit amongst the playing group then the last few. Mcrone is not the greatest half I do concede but tonight I won't jump on the Mcrone is a heap of shit bandwagon, maybe tomorrow I will..
This sums it up perfectly. McCrone is not a first grade halfback but he's hardly going to turn down the chance to play. If we had a coach of any substance he'd have been back to reggies weeks ago.I have a lot of respect for McCrone as a player. Forget aptitude for a minute.
So I am against the constant bagging he cops.
The real issue is the coach and the selection process that installs McCrone at no.7 week in week out regardless of outcome.
So in our whole squad, there is no other solution at halfback other than McCrone???
I don't believe that for a minute.
If Bennett can drop Hunt then surely McGregor could have dropped McCrone and tried something different by now.
So my conclusion is that it's not McCrone's fault that he keeps getting picked.
McGregor is out of his depth and is not a FG coach. That is our main problem.
All that's changed is our roster has been improved - especially at hooker - which has provided us with better distribution and therefore, more scoring opportunities. The poll should be is Mary coaching better than 2016??
Most here(me included)was very happy to see Mary get the credit for our start to this year and we're cautiously optimistic about a change in coaching attitude. Well it's now back to 2016 levels of WTF-refusal to drop poor performers, poor use of the bench etc. As far as I'm concerned, he should still be coaching for a new contract.
