Who the hell is Shayne Hayne?

The referee for the Saints v NQ match is a dead rookie by the name of Shayne Hayne.
He got the nod after the other rookie, Matt Cecchin was dropped down to 1st Division.
Given the sometimes volatile potential of matches in Townsville, one can only assume that this is considered the dreg match of the round.
I've never heard of this guy.
He's got a strange name.
Naturally, I hope for he's up to the task but I have a bad feeling about this.

Actually Willow hes been referreing in the NRL for most of this season i think, maybe just the later half but hes been around for a while. Hes not a deads set rookie but i think this is his rookie year.
He defintely a pain in the arse.

Cheers

Thanks Bronco, I haven't seen him yet.
I'm sure he has very nice parents...albeit with a sick sense of humour.
Definitely a pain in the arse, eh? That doesn't cheer me up at all. LOL.
I hate to pre-empt anything but it looks like a debacle is coming up in Townsville on Sat night.

He's in his first season but has been there almost every week. He takes the cake for most nasally voice in the NRL- and let me tell you, that's no mean feat with this current batch of whistleblowers!

Cheers.

Well let me put it this way. Do you remember Kelvin Jeffes?

Well Jeffes is a barritone compared to this Hayne fella.

Cheers.

Hayne talks his head off on the field. He lets everyone know what he expects and pings them if they are too thick to listen. I like his style of reffing but wish we didn't have to listen to his whiney voice.

It's amazing how some refs simply disappear. I know Jeffes is still a ref in first division but whatever happend to Jadwat?

Jadwat retired half way through this season. Thank god for that.

This year has seen a number of refs come into first grade which is a good thing. For the last few years we have had the same refs do the same standard game week in, week out. With all these new guys, some of the other guys are starting the feel the pressure and genrally, there are less complaints.

Jeffes refed the Newcastle/Newtown first div match last week and absolutely ruined the game as a spectacle. He found reason to give a penalty in nearly every set of six in the game, despite the game seeming to be a fairly clean, good natured affair.
On Shayne Hayne, I am pretty certain that he is a ref from the upper hunter comp. I think he hails from Singleton. He wouldn't be the first to make this jump. Neil Almond was another ref with a similar background. I could be wrong about that, it's only a vague memory.

Pepe, I've never been able to take any team lightly. Especially NQ. It was just last year that they thrashed us in Townsville. But I think this Saints has a better attitude than the team of last year.
It's just such a long way to go. I know it's part of Australia and all that but compared to Bris-Syd-Melb stereotypes, NQ is a completely different proposition. Part of it's appeal, I know.
No offence to North Queenslanders, I'm sure it's Gods own country.

I wonder if Shayne Hayne is related to the Hayne family who make the underwear.
It might explain the high pitched voice. ;)

I can't believe it.
We've got Shayne Hayne for this Saturday (v Penrith) as well.
I see now that he was also the touch judge in the Saints v Eagles match 2 weeks back. He made a bad call then as well.
But last week in the Saints v NQ match he was an absolute laughing stock. He made more errors than I could count.
He seemed to favour the home team for the first 20 minutes and then the away team for the next 20. Sorry, but no supporter should have to put up with that.

IMO, the ref situation has a hit a new all time low.

Now now, mad monk. You know as well asI do that blaming the ref fora loss simply doesn't hold any weight.

However, I'm always keen to a blame a ref for stuffing up a good match.
In all fairness, the man with the rhyming name didn't have any impression upon the outcome.
But it's true, in Townsville the crowd was laughing at some of his decisions. Even those that went against the locals.

Aw shucksWillow, just couldn't resist the irony of it in relation to my perspective on another game where I held the exact same thoughts, if you know what I mean:eek:)
