i have noticed a real lack of good five eigths out there, and instead there is basically just makeshift 5\8s. really the only decent ones out there are dykes, barret, lockyer , smith , marshall and campbell , and even afew of them rnt really five eigths. so which players do u think have the skills to play five eigth ?? (dont name any halfbacks). Some players who come to mind for me are Clinton Schifcofske , Luke Covell , Brett hodgson, Paul Gallen and Karmicheal Hunt. all these guys have good kicking , running passing games along with vision , flair and quality tricks with the ball. basicallt they look dangerous whenever they get the ball which i think is ideal for a 5\8
who else

Andrew Gee back in his day would have made a gun five-eighth. He kicked a 40-20 once.

you guys have nothing??
Andrew Gee like come on. Ill give yo an exanmple. Luke Covell is an ideal five eigth. When he gets the ball , he runs with it in two hands , and players dont no whether he is gonna , run , kick , pass , step , chip , flick etc etc. He has vision and noone knows what he is going to do (not even me). When someone like Pearson gets the ball he is limited in his options. Contrasing to covell who has the skill to run to the line then throw a cut out ball which takes about 4 of there defenders out of play

  .

Disagree about your assessment of 5/8th's. The 5/8th position is slowly starting to reclaim it's signifcance on the footy field as demonstrated by the play of the games best 5/8ths this season. The slower play the balls have allowed the attacking sides more time to plan their backline movements. There's some good young players coming through to first grade in the NRL at the moment as well. The Storm will probably target him but, keep an eye out for the no.6 for Canberra this weekend, Todd Carney.

Running the ball in 2 hands = A class 5/8

Let me tell u this man
if i picked a team of players who had played less than 20 first grade games, id pick Carney, i think he is a sensation

Andrew Gee has a much better passing game than Luke Covell will ever have... Covell is just a slow, average winger who is just put out there for his goalkicking. A bit like Daryl Halligan in the 90's.

BBSF...none of the aforementioned "future five-eighths" are any more ridiculous than you're rating of Luke Covell as a five-eighth. Trust me, as a five eighth myself I can tell you he will never play in the 6 and do well.
