Who's going on Sunday?

Much to my disappointment I haven't been to a game yet this season. Last year I went to the season opener at Aussie and backed it up with the double header the next day.
Friday nights are generally impossible for me and we've had a few of them. I am very happy that this weeks game is on Sunday (after the initial stuff up of dates on my behalf when I thought I was best man at a wedding - not exactly the best man, am I).
Even better, my very good friend is a huge Knights fan and has season tickets. Even better still (in purely a footy sense and nothing else), he has recently split from his wife, leaving a spare ticket or two to every Knights home game.
So, I'm there on Sunday in the new Eastern stand on the 40 metre line. Who else from here is going?

Every cloud has a silver lining :D

I'll be listening to the radio then watching the game on television. Let us know what you think of the new stadium.

I saw it on the local news last night. It's not exactly a stadium just yet. They've only done the first stage which is basically just the bottom deck - no roof. The rest will get done in the off-season apparently. I've seen conceptuals and it looks pretty good. They need to dump that old stand and replace it with the same as the new one. That would give them some decent capacity which they'd fill almost every game in a good season.

I know Tony. On that note (and this is not a smart-arse remark), I've noticed back in mid '97 where there were three consecutive home games with really low crowd figures:-
Round 13 v Norths - 6281
Round 15 v Roosters - 6562
Round 10 v Souths - 6177

Out of those games you lost to Norths, drew to Roosters and Won 30-0 against Souths. Was there a specific reason, that you can recall, for the low crowd figures? I know it was Superleague year, and crowd figures were down generally everywhere, but the Knights had pretty decent crowds in earlier rounds (21K+ v Parra in Rnd 5), and they finished the rounds with some big crowds too. Do you have any recollection of this? It's something that's been bugging me for a while now cause I don't remember it. I'm even more intrigued because the Round 10 game was actually played between Round 15 and 16.

Was the grandstand being fumigated for termites? Did the infamous gatekeepers use division instead of subtraction?

I must be getting old, because I don't remember all this.

I know why the crowd figure was low for round 13

it rained so much my trench coat had its taps turned on at the hem line.

it was horendous

as for going this sunday, I can safely say I will never set foot inside that stadium again
the last two time I went to games we had to put up with abuse and projectiles thrown at us just for being there and this was by 80 year old ladies

fanatical is one thing but these people are beyond that, and given this is their first taste of footy since last year, if your not wearing red and blue it would be best to stay clear

Well, I'm wearing the 2002 away jersey, so I should blend in nicely...

Clearing shower and relatively cool (max 21) forecast. So I guess I should prepare for 16 degrees and pissing down? And here I was thinking it'd be OK that there's no roof yet.

I've heard some of those stories at Marathon. Someone here was writing about when they went to a game with family and some old lady either hit or poked the little girl because she was wearing a Roosters jersey and cheering for the Roosters. I've never actually been to Marathon for a Roosters game, so I can't say I've experienced any of that. I have gone for a Knights v Manly game back in the mid 90s and I was actually supporting the Knights (as was everyone else in Australia who wasn't a Manly fan).

I was wrong when I said I hadn't been to a game this year. I went to the trial against the Knights in Nelson Bay. I also went to the Knights game at Aussie last year. I'm kinda getting used to watching them beat the Knights, so I'm hoping that trend will continue this week.

To be honest I don't know why the figures were so low, The Norths game went down in Knights folklore the weather was the worst I have ever seen at a footy match, in fact they have shown it on Boots'N All afew times, from recollection the day started beautiful and sunny, then the heavens opened up, the ground was flooded. As for the other games mentioned, I'm sorry but I cannot recall why the crowds were so low, it may well have been the weather also, I prob exagerated a bit will the "we fill every game" bit but we do have good crowds (over 16,000) at most games, I can tell you this though, Sundays game will be a shut the gates job.

Re: the low figures in 97.

According to my Grand final Rugby league week special thingy (technical name :p), 97 up here in Newcastle had piss poor weather for most of the season.

which had no effect over the knights home crowds because knights supporters were so against that "other " comp that out of spite they would turn up to home games..

the weather was the culprit pure and simple........I know this because I caught more colds standing on the goninan hill that year than ever before or after.
