I blame J.Ramien.
If he'd have hit his winger at least 10% of the time with opportunities that presented we would have well an truly trumped GC in the f/a department and made the 8.
pass the ball ffs!

Lots of reasons.

But for me the main reasons were;

1. Most of the high end of our salary cap was tied up in old, injury prone and non performing players.

2. Way too many mis tackles. Too many players getting pushed off with their initial contact in tackles. When you hit you have to stick.

3. Poor technique in tackles where a lot of the time no one was wrapping up the ball. How many times did opposition players get an offload away whilst 3 players tackling him? Way too much.

4. Lost the ruck. If you don’t dominate the tackle and the opposition is getting quick play the balls you’re going to get carved up and also incur 6 again te starts.

5. No line speed in defence. You can get away with it sometimes against the shyte sides. But if you aren’t consistently moving up in defence and putting pressure on the opposition ball distributors and letting big forwards get momentum you are going to get cut up by the top sides.

I agree with all of this, but will add that all of those points influence each other... hard to really define a root cause, but #1 --- squad depth eliminated by the cap being taken up by (and it's so f**ken crazy that this is actually true): Johnson, Dugan, Moylan, Fifita and Graham, all of whom minimally contributed to the season. #2 -- The 17 is then made up of largely players on non-elite salaries, players who were meant to be squad fillers and depth, contact isn't up to scratch as a result. #3 --as above, poor initial contact, poor technique, leads to #4 -- quick play the balls for the opposition, loss of momentum, leads to.. #5 -- back peddling, and thus fatigue, and thus a real points advantage to any opposition who can capitalise on the extra space they're given.

We were in it most weeks for the first half as pointed up thread... but once all of that builds (for us, we died in the 50th-60th minute onwards, it affects our ability to get field position, attack, leads to impatience, and shit decision making + a lack of attacking kicks, repeat sets blah blah blah why am i typing we know all this shit haha

Anyway! My point being here that, we've solved #1 for the most part with a roster turnover... elite players or close to will be in most positions on the field. Everything can fall into place from there.

( EDIT: I wanna add as well cos i'm fkn hopped up on espresso and lockdown brainmelt.. that imo, the game plan side of coaching was almost a zero factor for us and a lot of the lowly sides this year (unless you cherry pick moments like taking the 2 etc, which in the context of 80 minutes are easy to look at and lose sight of the bigger picture)... game was so much more about instinct and momentum this year that it was up to the 13 on the field for most games. cohesion only lost through coaching by lack of pre/full-season preparations which hurt us a lot through the chopping and changing... not even Bellamy could have come in Round 6 and fixed us up )

In Wade, Dugan, Johnson, Woods, Moylan and Fifita the club had $4.9 million of salary cap tied up, these players between the managed 74 out of a total 150 games (each possibly playing 25 games), less than half and of that 74 Woods played 24 about 1 third, that’s a lot of wasted money, Fifita got paid $140,000 per game, Dugan $106,000 per game and Johnson $100,000 per game, I hope the club doesn’t put themselves in that position again too soon.

Lol, Fred's dog sacked the coach, listened to white ants, and the results speak for themselves. Failed to make 8 for many years.

This year was written off for next year.

All in on Fitz, no problem.

Internet does not have enough storage to list the reasons. So many, of differing levels of impact. Just so many.

Main one for me is instability. Coaching, players form, injuries and attitudes. Just no stability or consistency.

Can't gain and maintain any traction if shits not stable.

We have at least Johnson on the park for 2/3rd of the season we get there no issue. Without him and Moylan turning up for another cameo season we were always up against it.
Just on Johnson, he’s in a bit of a quandary now. Supports his team by flogging off back to NZ early…..only now to have to work out how to get back to Australia as it seems as though the Warriors will be based in Redcliffe for most part of 2022.
Funny how things play out

and his mrs has signed with a nz netball team.. I can honestly see him coming out with a “time to do things for my fam” type post and signing with a nz rugby team so he doesn’t have to move over here.

Dont have the depth, too green it terms of experience, part time coach and no game plan but the biggest issue is lack of commitment in defence. Defence wins games and premierships, our line speed is to slow to stop the opposition getting over the advantage line, too much grabbing not enough hitting.

Even worse when you consider the top earners at most clubs probably missed games due to Origin committments yet none of ours did.

I wonder who our top 4 earners for 2022 are likely to be?

Fifita
Graham?
Hynes?
Finucane?
McInnes?

I really have no idea.
