Why do ESL post match interviews mostly feature Aussie players?

I have been watchly more ESL now that it is on Ch 9 at a civilised hour. What catches me as strange is that many of the post match interviews with players are of players who are Aussies. I also watched a couple ESL stories on the SkySports website which had a promo clip regarding Millenium Magic in Scotland with a player from every team in Scotland to promote it (mostly Aussie players) and the players interviewed were Cameron Phelps, Lincoln Withers and some Kiwi.

I thought it strange until I heard Gareth Ellis interviewed after the Wests Tigers beat Canberra and I had to concentrate on what he was saying so I could understand it due to the thick accent.

I know RL wants to make a big push into the south of England so are they deliberately letting Aussies do the talking because they want to get rid of any stereotypes Londoners may have of RL when they hear thick north England accent or are Aussie players such big stars over there that it's just common sense to interview them ahead of the locals.

Would Londoners and other "Southerners" really have trouble understanding a Yorkshire or North West English accent? I can't say I've ever had huge trouble.

I mean, presumably there's fair differences between 'Estuary English' and, say, West Country pronounciations too...?

You never heard Jamie Peacock speak? Goodness he comes across so uneducated and thick. Time SL players had ellucutions lessons to deal with media!

Whenever I've been to Australia they struggled to understand me (believe me my accent isn't anywhere near as thick as Jamie Peacock's) whereas when I've been to the States they didn't seem to have a problem with my accent. Maybe it's those cloth ears you Aussies have.;-)

Front rowers, no matter whether they grew up in Rockdale or Rochdale, are generally not the most eloquent people...!

As a massive generalisation I guess NRL players are probably better at this as they're more used to the higher level of media scrutiny here.

When I was in North America I found myself affecting an American accent on certain words just so I could be understood. For some reason trying to order a Coke in Toronto was especially problematic. :?

Yeah but spub Lancashire accents are no where near as hard to understand as the Yarksheer ones. When I was in Leeds two years ago, I literally needed a translator to order a beer!

And I can get round a Cumbrian accent only cause I have been round Marve long enough to figure it out, but that would throw many an Aussie as well if they heard it the first time, and marvs is a fairly mild accent too compared to some of the Cumbrian ones I heard up in Whitehaven last year!

Why?

Because they are freakin everywhere... Seriously, pick up team sheets and look at how many are actually born in the UK. There are guys playing over here who I didnt even know where Australian until they opened there mouth.
