Why does the media hate us?

So, Thursday night was great to see! It's round 1, we're on top and yes we've all been here before, but for me it was great to see us get off to a flying start against a typically top team and see some of the combinations we've got to look forward to for the next few seasons run in the Red V.

What is really getting on my nerves is that each and every NRL show from 360, to the Grill team to Matty Johns etc are all banging on about how bad the Broncos were and how they under played and under achieved and how could they lose so badly and not one has given Saints credit for turning up and playing well.

Anyone else noticed this?

Yes but who cares. We have a good side who can now compete. A lot of jealousy occurs from past success and denigration of the Illawarra which I believe is a great place.
The detractors can all get stuffed. I grew up at Bexley North and now live on the North Shore and have holidayed a lot at Austinmer. Up the Dragons as the Revival has come!

To the objective eye, the Broncos were complete puss last Thursday. We were good and played what was in front of us, but the score line flattered and the Donkeys were still in it for most of the game. We still have some obvious gaps and a fairly one dimensional game plan, with the only difference to 2017 being a halfback thats able to execute the off-the-cuff plays that he attempts. Plus the real glaring weakness that we all know and love to hate...

I feel the basis is that both Doust & McDeflector have never endeared the club to the media as they never answer the questions.
One speaks like a Politician full of BS & spin, whilst the other speaks in repetitive cliches. Both display arrogance & a lack of accountability to answer any criticism. Hence it's boring and not exactly riveting viewing or listening. It's the same reason they never put boring people on reality TV as nobody would watch!

After the fade outs of the past couple of years, it would be a strange thing for a commentator to get too excited about our early season form.

The dragons beat what was in front of them, but were far from great. There are some good signs, but it's definitely a work in progress.

We were the centre of the media universe when Bennett was there.
But they do hate us for the 11 premierships in a row, which has become a bit like Holocaust denial for some.

So it's all about our fuc*wit deranged coach who was the laughing stock of the NRL last year for sure - especially with the low IQ bench rotations, the resurgent choking tag he manifests & the bevy of arselicking under performers he continually selected.

To be fair, when Bennett was here we won 2 minor premierships and a premiership. It's pretty natural that we'd be a media focus. Even then, all of the talk in the lead up to the 2010 GF seemed to focus heavily on the roosters.

Besides that, f**k them. I don't care if they hate us, as long as we are successful.

If the media really had it in for us, Mary would have been long gone.

I actually think the opposite, media rarely pay us any attention. Over the last few years, Parra, the Dogs, Manly, Tigers and the Warriors have gotten hammered from the media for various reasons, largely board room related.

Can be seen as a good thing we’re not in the media too much, no atrocities from our players and despite incompetent management, Mary, Doust etc seem to avoid a lot of media scrutiny.

Basically because we’re a club that no one really worries about as we are neither a contender nor are we spoon candidates.

We are largely middle of the road in many ways which largely makes us non descript to opposition fans and the media.

We start winning more games, then this will change.

Probably because most of them were fooled after our start last year where we were top of the comp after first 6 games and didn't make the finals. Alot of the so called experts were tipping top 4 etc from us and title contender talk was even mentioned at that stage.
They were made to look like idiots and you can't blame them for playing us down this season. They all give that vibe like they wanna wait and see.
A bit like all of us on here.
The less talk up the better, i reckon and we will wait and see.

The media love to pick on us because as a club we continually feed them with ammunition to fire bullets at us.
Perennial under achievers with a rich history that is waved in our faces.
In fact IMO it was that constant pressure and criticism that netted us Bennett and if you remember back even Gould was saying that the long suffering fans needed a premiership and he actually suggested it would take Bennett to deliver it.
Of course since then back into the doldrums and the time line again building more pressure which we again buckle under.
We have a fan base that wear their hearts on their sleeves, are willing to apportion blame to its BOD, coach and roster and all of that makes good theatre and the press expertly ramp that up.
Do they hate us ,not so sure but they know how to get a rise out of us, that is for sure and certain.

If and when we have more wins on the board against some quality opposition and there is also more then one plan of attack in our games , plus our defence ( mainly backs ) is solid , then they the media ( who constantly change their minds at a drop of a hat anyway ) may give the Dragons our much deserved accolades - maybe .

In saying all of that , I would much rather have our team fly under the radar .The less noise made about us the better.

As mentioned we have to give the media a reason to want to talk us up. Not since the beginning of 2011 have we gone into a season where there was any expectation on us. 7 fcking years people.
We aren’t even the plucky battler(think Tigers, Knights for that). I don’t you think you could consider us as underachievers either given little expectation is placed on us externally or internally. That is unless you rated our season based on two halves just like the coach(performing well up to mid way & then fall of the face of the planet).
Sigh.
