It’s a definite defensive strategy against teams with hookers that like to run or kick from dummy half. Bennett employed this effectively over the last few seasons at Souths.
needs to be enforced but need a high profile coach to whine about it or some media blowups for it to happen
Also, stop tackled players standing up and stepping to the side to make the markers no longer square.
Or just make it a penalty like it used to be. These days they can walk off the mark and only risk being asked to go back and play it again.to be honest I think it the attacking player plays the ball off the mark then the ref calls it and no defenders can be called offside on the next play. Watch this problem quickly disappear.
Yep. Or like how if they take a quick tap with a player in front of them they just tell them they have to wait rather than calling the infringement. They've made the referees give the team in possession so much leeway it's kind of ridiculous.Or just make it a penalty like it used to be. These days they can walk off the mark and only risk being asked to go back and play it again.
My pet hate is when the bloke playing the ball steps forward, essentially nudging the first marker in a position where he's no longer square
I've often wondered why they call out to tell a player he's offside. Let him make the tackle and penalise him if he can't get onside himself. Why don't these incompetant painted on eyes referees do their job consistently correct?
Calling players by their first name and mate is very unprofessional. All players should be address as the number on thier back...thats it. You are not his mate or coach.
Coaching and warning the elite players not to commit a penalty and not to stand offside is very unprofessional. Are they the referee or the coach on the field ?
A good referee should be heard but never noticed or remember for any on the field calls.
Most of these referees just couldn't make it playing the game and end up wanting the attention on the field as a inconsistent, unprofessional referee.
Because they are under pressure by the NRL to let the game flow. No point having a go at the refs when they are only doing what their boss tells them to do. Their life would be a heck of a lot easier if they were allowed to ref to the rules only!I've often wondered why they call out to tell a player he's offside. It sickens me that I agree with you...Because they are under pressure by the NRL to let the game flow. No point having a go at the refs when they are only doing what their boss tells them to do. Their life would be a heck of a lot easier if they were allowed to ref to the rules only!
