having trouble getting a decent wi-fi signal in some parts of the house, wondering if a signal extender is worth a go.

if anyone here has any experiences with them i'd like to hear about them, thanks.

I purchased a Netgear WN 3000rpt, around $70, and it works great, naturally if more than one device is using the signal you will get a reduction in line speed.

They do work but I've noticed that they're not seamless when you move from one router to the next.

I've got a netgear R6300 router which has a lot of wi-fi punch to start but I bought an extender to reach my far shed (where I hide from missus and twins). Works a treat.

They work great, but as alluded to above the handover between base stations is generally not an automatic thing, meaning you have to select the extender manually if you want to use it instead of your current wifi network.

You can buy more expensive units that will have a seamless changeover, but considering the price difference I reckon the added step of selecting the extender on your wifi list is worth the hassle. If you get the positioning of the extender right (as close to the centre of the house as possible) you might find that you are able to connect to the extender from all locations anyway which negates the need to keep changing between networks anyway.
