If the Ipswich "Jets" bid is successfull in 2013, will they be forced to choose a new mascot logo?

History may suggest they will.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Coast_Titans
"In August 2004, the NRL rejected Michael Searle's bid for re-adding a Gold Coast team. However later, during an episode of Nine Network's The Footy Show, the "Gold Coast Consortium" announced their team name and jersey to the public from the Gold Coast Convention Centre. Initially the team was to be named the Gold Coast Dolphins, with the team colours to be white, jade and orange. While the Dolphins moniker was popular among many, the heavyweight Brisbane QLD Cup side the Redcliffe Dolphins saw it as a threat for any prospect of entering the NRL they had, and as a result threatened severe legal action if the Gold Coast used the Dolphins name"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redcliffe_Dolphins
"Recently a new NRL team to be based on the Gold Coast was going to call itself the Gold Coast Dolphins. This was decided against after the Redcliffe Dolphins threatened legal action. The team is now called the Gold Coast Titans."

I can't see the Newtown Jets let them use the Jets moniker. Interesting to see what eventuates.

i dont think so, there is a a slim to bupkis chance of newtown coming back to the nrl, plus theres two teams called the seagulls (wynumm and tweed) in the qcup and two magpies in the nsw cup (wests and wenty)

Too late if you asked me. They should have 25 years ago when the Ipswich Jets were formed.

NSW and QLD cup are not professional competitions, they are semi-pro at best.

The Newtown Jets, like it or not, are an will always be part of the history of the NRL. Therefore their mascot should not and will be be allowed to be used by another team in the same competition regardless of any plan, or lack of plans, for Newtown to rejoin the comp.

If Redcliffe stopped the GC titans from using the name dolphins and Cronulla Stopped the GC Suns from using the name Sharks, the the Newtown Jets will definitely stop Ipswich cashing in on an already existing brand in the 'jets' regardless of anything else.

Why? the QLD Cup is not the NRL. Also the QLD Cup is not a professional rugby league competition.

Newtown Jets have history in the NSWRL not the NRL.

The Redcliffe/GC is totally different for one the GC was a brand new entity where as Ipswich has 25 years of club history under the 'Jets' name.

The NSWRL is the forerunner to the NRL.

Look at David Middletown's yearbook to see who the Premiers in 1910, 1933, and 1943 are - Newtown.

That's because the redcliffe dolphins had a chance of joining the nrl in the future back when gold coast were admitted, newtown have no chance of ever joining the nrl in the future.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
Newtown were the first RL club formed in Australia 1908.

Ipswich formed in 1986.

1908 (103 years of history) V 1986 (25 years of history)

One club more than 4 times older/more history than the other.

How blind/biased can you be and expect to be taken seriously ?

based on what ? I cannot ever remember any serious talk of a NRL bid. Only when the GC wanted to use the dolphins name.

As an old Jets fan , Id hate to see Ipswich come in with the same name.
But legally I dont know where Newtown could stop them. Hope they do though.

Typical canetoad bastards stealing things from NSW, the greatest state in Australia. How about you think of your own good names? Oh wait, we're smart and we've already thought of all the good ones.

Yes they have been around 103 years but What right do they have to tell Ipswich they need to change their name.

Do Newtown have any trademark on the name Jets?

If so then Ipswich shouldn't have been allowed to select the name 25 years ago when they begun playing in the BRL.

Same goes for the Newcastle Jets.

That's rich coming from someone that supports a team called the rabbitohs.
