Will Stagefright be a problem??

Given the incredible buildup to this match, and the expected crowd, is anyone else concerned that some of our team will get overwhelmed by the occasion.

I am referring to guys like Robson, Lowrie, Keating, Morts, Mannah, Reddy etc.

Looking at the Bulldogs side, they have plenty of SOO or Grand Final experience as opposed to our side.

I hope I am wrong but lets hope they remain calm and collected and not become rabbits in the headlights which we see so often.

Can not wait !!!

Rep honours:

Parra:

Hayne - outstanding for NSW & Aus.
Inu - test debut at 18 - was not overawed
Grothe - strong in all his Origin games
Cayless - won the world cup as Kiwi captain
Hindmarsh - Origin powerhouse (after a slow start) and singlehandedly won NSW a game
Gulavao - GF and test experience - won a premiership as a 'big game player'

Bulldogs:

El Masri - did he seriously play Origin???
Morris - as much a rookie as anyone else
Kimmorley - knows how to lose at Origin level...
Hannant - QLD powerhouse
Ennis - wasn't great at Origin level
Ryan - can handle the pressure - but his game has been MIA for a few years now

I wouldn't say they have MORE experience at Origin/ test level? (it's possible I overlooked someone?)

But the Eels players are used to the pressure game - 9 of the last 10 games we've played have been "knockout" scenarios. Look how we handled them!
Dogs haven't faced an elimination game yet, the pressure is RIGHT on them, they've had a soft semi vs a weak Knights team, looked a rabble against the Tigers in the last comp round (in a pressure game to win the minor premiership) and haven't played any footy in 2 weeks.

I'd much rather be in our shoes for this game - just my opinion, but I reckon the bulldogs are a miniscule chance of winning.

Oh - I should've added that Lowrie, Keating, Mannah and J Wright were all fantastic last weekend - no stage fright for them.

Stage fright has a lot to do with good preparation and the confidence in the team. We're confident we can beat anyone, and it's showing in the results.

Anderson's coaching pedigree seems a bit better than that of Moore (at this stage). I'll back him!

The more this week has gone on the less nervous I have felt. Mostly the talk coming from the Bulldogs trying to put pressure on the Eels suggests to me they are feeling it themselves.

Robson was involved in the Manly GF build up last season. Not as big however Reddy, Keating and Lowrie have all been involved on Grand Final Day over the past few seasons - the crowd may not have been as big when they were playing but it is a similar stage. Mannah and Mortimer have responded well to all the pressure they have been under for most of the season.

I'm quietly confident...

my only concern is that a few of the boys confessed to the teams nerves last week
while this is natural, once the titans werent able to post any pts, we lifted and it was all over
my concern is if we start poorly, will we be able to overcome it??
in all our wins lately, only the tigz 8-0 and the dragons 2-0 have we had to come from behind
oh and titans 2-0

we've been playing sudden death footy for about 2 months, they seem to thrive on it

not in front of 80,000 people, one game outside the GF, different circumstances now.

Yeah my concern is that it has been 'one week at a time' talk for two months - now they are talking Grand Finals and premierships.

I am hoping Ando has them under control. He is a cool customer.

Both sides have their potential startled rabbits but I really do think the dogs are under more pressure than us. Having been robbed of the MP, their great season amounts to diddly squat if they don't make the GF.....one slip and they're gone.

I would definately rather have our coach in this situation though.

In DA we trust ;-)

On one hand they are and on the other they are also taking the one game at a time approach. I'm sure that they are all aware of how often this opportunity comes around and not to take it as set in stone until they walk off the victors.

well, I'm pretty sure they'll be playing on the ground - no "stage" involved (it'd be pretty tough to make a stage big enough tbh) ... so I think we should be right :thumn

What a dumb assessment this is.

- Patten has been in a GF and big finals before.
- El Masri has been in a GF and played test & origin
- Kimmorley has played in a GF, origin and tests
- Hannant has played in a GF and origin
- Stagg has played in a GF and origin
- Eastwood/Roberts, finals and test experience
- Ryan been in a GF, origin and tests
- Ennis been in origin and big finals games
- Morris been in origin

The only real rookies who havnt been involved in big games would be Goodwin, Idris, Warburton, Gordon, (and maybe Hickey/Armit but they have been around for a while)

And although it wont really matter, your assessment clearly had no thought.

I agree with you. Oldmancraigy seems to have confused playing in front of big crowds with rep footy.:?

I don't think this side has any stage fright issues.

The old heads have done it all before - they know what to expect. Look out the last two games, ample opportunity for the Dragons and Titans to be up by 12-18 points. That was the perfect time to get stage fright, but our boys were determined and performed well.

Remember 2001 when we only just beat the Broncos to make the Grand Final? We looked very streaky that day and obviously the occasion got to us.

Usually I get very nervous, but was extremely calm last week and very confident for tomorrow night.

This Eels side has a steely resolve to them that will hold them in good stead for the next two games.
