Will Super League ever have an equivalent of the NRL's Pacific pathway ?

Slightly quirky one I know but......

If the emerging nations across Europe started unearthing the odd talent who prove to be capable of playing Super League (or Championship) level ......will clubs look more seriously at those countries ?

Plus in time will it see a more individual clubs led involvement in the visiting and nurturing of talent in one or more countries ?

(Cue someone raising the likelihood of a classy Spaniard claiming eligibility for England after playing for 3 years in that part of the world :p)

Obviously at this moment in time it would be easier to take in players from EU countries but that may change in June.

Not across EU politicking at the moment; can you provide a real quick rundown on what's in the air ? ( Realise this a RL forum, not Meet the Press so PM me if easier ! :))

I guess the answer is that a RL club will take anyone from anywhere if they think it will lead to wins.

NRL pacific pathway??? Like there is one lol

Taking the odd Fijian and odd PNG Lad doesn't constitute a "pathway"

Plus we'be been "taking" the odd Welshmen & French Lad for 40+ years....keep up!

Not to mention the odd Serbian, morrocan down the years...Christ Oldman had a Moroccan in the 1980s..

Seriously Don't get ahead of yourself in thinking Australia are doing something ground breaking...they are't....infact they are decades behind!

Hull had the Moroccan first 'spud (and Fulham before Hull). Plus we've been taking Welsh lads since we left the RU. Plenty of Saffers and the odd Namibian too.

I've been a huge critic of the ARL for years.

However, i think it is ground breaking - their pacific solution.

Rather than just scout a couple of players here and there, the NRL has set up offices (brick and mortar) and employed staff in fiji, png, samoa etc. These NRL employed staff now go to primary and secondary schools and teach the game. They also meet with government to secure funding. They are doing the grassroots stuff.

The common thing in developing nations is that they don't have the right personnel and they waste money (steal money). So the NRL decided they would directly employ people so they are more accountable - rather than just signing a check.

Wales Scotland Ireland - need small but strong domestic leagues with well defined pathways to League 1, Championship, SL.

France - as above but with the goal of having a pro league.

I think the Canadians and USA have the right system by partnering clubs within SL.

The Canadians have about 5 or 6 players now playing in Australia thanks to their partnership with the Paramatta Eels.
