Fevola 'harassed reporter at Brownlow'

12:30 AEST Fri Oct 9 2009
1 hour 11 minutes ago

Media reports have claimed Brendan Fevola sexually harassed a female journalist during his wild night at the Brownlow Medal count.

Melbourne 3AW radio presenter Neil Mitchell today detailed Fevola's alleged actions at the September 21 event, which saw the Carlton star axed from The Footy Show's grand final edition and also fall out of favour with his club.

Despite claiming the Coleman Medal for kicking the most goals this AFL season, the full forward was today traded to the Brisbane Lions. (READ MORE: Brisbane completes Fevola trade)

"Brendan Fevola has been accused of at the very least sexually harassing and arguably assaulting and intimidating a female Herald Sun journalist," Mitchell said today.

"I have been told by several sources that he followed her into the toilets at Crown [and] physically intimidated her.

"One of the reports says … [he was] simulating sex acts upon her and sort of grabbing at her.

"It was certainly of a sexual nature."

The explosive report claims that while both the Carlton Football Club and the AFL are aware of the allegations, the journalist in question has not filed an official complaint to the police or the league.

The Herald Sun also omitted the details from their extensive coverage of Fevola's wild night at the request of the woman, reports claim.

A popular online blog originally posted details of Fevola's alleged indiscretion today.

VEXNEWS claimed the incident occurred in or near the female toilets near the Palladium Room at Crown Casino, the venue for the presentation of the AFL's highest individual award.

Fevola is currently holidaying in Queensland with his pregnant wife Alex and two children.

Well, the fact that it has been reported probably means they havent...

Ahh, this is a new report mate, I'm referring to the journos on A Current Affair and all that mob that continually kick league in the guts.

Didn't realise I had to draw it for you ;-)

Some people go over the top in there paranoia about League's media coverage compared to the AFL.

But this is Four Corners stuff, I mean the AFL and/or its clubs/players have that much power and sway that they can cover up for weeks at best an unwarranted aggresive sexual advance or at worst sexual assault???

BUT what the hell is going on??

If that was Willie Mason did this it would have been headline news on all the major networks that night and Rebbecca Wilson, Jacqueline Magnay, Phil Rothfield would have written about it every day since.

Demetriou would have been quoted on it, Education NSW and QLD would have had press releases on how the game is not going to be played in schools, Today Tonight and ACA would have extensively covered it?

But this got NOTHING! Nothing???

It's not only unfair if nothing happens, to the NRL but to others in and who follow AFL. I like many West Coast Eagles supporters will be keen to see if the AFL will respond to this as they did to the Eagles. The AFL have said they will be looking into it, especially as Steven Kernahan (Carlton legend and current member of the board) said that the club was aware of it. It was unreported but very much the worst of a roudy night at the Brownlow which saw Carlton trade him. Before this was known, most AFL fans were sceptical of Carltons intent to trade, and merely thought they were paying lip service to the league bosses. They are by far the most immoral club with a history of systematically rorting the league, Fev was just the highest profile player to keep playing up. Carlton's culture is corrupted thoughout, think the likes of John Elliot and Richard Pratt as presidents. West Coast only had a genius like Michael Gardner and a unfortuante drug addict in Ben Cousins (non player enhancing).

AFL be fair to the interstate clubs and bust Carlton open!

ACA, TTonight, Feminsits, 7Pm Project, Offsiders ect where are you????
Coverage on Fox Sports and in the Southern States is extensive - the fact he signed up with the Lions today made the story delicious and the journos are having a ball with him.

where are all the articles about kids leaving afl because of players like fevola? ... why aren't the journos chasing down schools asking why they are still involved with the sport?

where are the interviews with mothers on the street asking if fevola makes them worry about letting their kids play the game?

But it's never an AFL problem, it's a Brendan Fevola problem

Look, there's a lot of banter between the different codes that goes on on this board, but let's get serious for a moment, binge drinking isn't an "AFL problem" or an "NRL problem", it's a major problem with Australian society in general.
