Don't want him, I can't say I understand why he's so highly rated. He's got the skill, sure, but he just can't handle pressure and goes to pieces trying to pull off a miracle play every set. Scott Prince is twice the player.

I'd be much happier with a solid half working with KK's flair, maybe Morts off the bench, and use any money we were going to offer Thurston to build a real star forward pack and retain the likes of Hayne, Mateo, and Inu.

Sorry Baz, but Thurston is the best 7 in the world. Did you watch origin? He killed it again. I would take him in a heartbeat.

Great player, if we had the cash and the salary cap went up in 2013, i dont see why we shouldnt make him an offer for 2011. It wouldnt suprize me if th Dogs chased him, but I think they will also target Mortimer

KK and Mortimer will not stay here long term if we sign either Tim Smith or Thurston.

Be assured of that.

Fair enough, and I'm not denying he's a good player by any means, but did you see him in Origin 3? He was woeful for someone who is supposed to be the best player in the world in some circles. His major problem is that when the pressure is on he tries to do everything himself and just gets more and more frustrated until he snaps. At that point anything can happen. I just think that for his reputation and the money he's been asking/offered from NQLD, he's just not worth it when we can build a star pack to run good halves off with that money. I'd rather not fall into the trap Newcastle did with Joey, and I fear that we could with a big money, big ego player like Thurston

You raise a good point. I get you. To be honest I would probably go for someone like Cronk if it assured me enough money to retain players like Mateo and Hayne long term.

And tht there is the main reason we shouldn't sign Tim Smith. He's proven unreliable in the past - be that because of bi-polar or not, where does that leave us if he decides the pressure again is too much too handle? Bringing through a new halfback after letting go others who could have filed the role with similar or better potential.

Rest assured Anderson will not go into 2010 with just Mortimer and K Keating. If he can get Tim Smith for about $100K he will sign him. No other halfback on that money is better then Tim Smith and available. Think about the available alternatives. Seymour ? He would want about $200K. No thanks. Tim Smith would be the best bet because nobody wants him and he knows he owes us.

Why $100,000? He hasn't proven himself that he is worth that for a start and it doesn't look like he is fighting off other clubs fighting for his signature. If he is signed as the Wenty halfback and can prove his fitness - physical and mental then no problem. But at the cost of players who seemingly can gandle the mental pressures as well as the physical..... no thanks.

He cracked the first time and there is nought to suggest anything has changed.

He is a risk I grant you that but what is the alternative ?

PS

If we get Thurston does my gut feeling get some respect ? :D

Letting the likes of Mortimer and Keating mature into first grade players or looking to use some of the money we have available for 2011.

It is still a huge if, particularly if the 700,000 on offer is true.

Timmy will come back on an incentive deal based on results. He wants a challenge and PO & DA will tempt him to such a challenge. If Timmy comes on board he will sign on for a pittance. He really feels he owes the Parra fans, the club and his ex team mates an apology and the best way to clear the air (his conscience) is to pay back the Eels by proving himself on the field after putting in a huge effort on the training track and with his rehabilitation.

It's not too late for Timmy.... all he needs is love love, love is all he needs. (not the emotional garbage - but the power of creation that love really is).

Boooo Casper;-)

55K maximum, considering he took a 2008 payout for the whole season and then earned additional money by signing the rest of the season in England.

Tim Smith does owe us something, that's for sure...

Im fairly certain that the article that said the Cowboys would be offering Thurston $700 000 a year, aslo said that about $300 000 of that would be 3rd part agreements.

If Parramatta are on the verge of signing Tim Smith and are now interested in Thurston. I think Mortimer is pretty much assured to signing with the bulldogs for season 2011 and beyond,
