Wimbledon

Well Wimbledon kicked off today, so to speak. I spose the big question here from an Australian point of view is can Lleyton do it again?? He hasn't been in blistering form lately, and Andy Roddick, the only other major threat in his quarter has been in awesome form. You'd think that these two would probably make it to the last 8 lookin closely at their quarter of the draw. If they did it would be an awesome match.
I think Lleyton can definately win this entire tournament, but he needs to focus on his tennis and not abusing the linesmen.
On to the women, as much as I hate to say it, I think that Serena Williams will be back to her best, and it will be very dufficult to see anyone go past her, including Henin-Hardene. I feel she'll be too powerful on grass.
Anyway, coverage starts Monday the 23rd June, 10.30pm EST on channel 9. Should be a good tournament.

Well there's one of my predictions down the gurgler...Lleyton Hewitt has been defeated in 4 sets in his first round qualifier at Wimbledon this year, going down to Croatia's 6'10 giant Ivo Karlovic 6-1, 6-7, 3-6, 4-6. Hewitt played very well in the first set, and then the big Croation seemd to find his feet and get his big first serve going. Hewitt simply had no answer. Unlucky Lleyton.
As a foot note, this isn't the first time an aussie has been defeated at Wimbledon by a Croation with a big serve, shades of 2001, Rafter v Ivanisavich.
Anyway I wonder how big Karlovic will end up going?? It could be him and Andy Roddick in the quarter finals...

The scud faces up against Argentinian, Mariano Zabaleta tonight. This will be a tough one for our big server, as Zabaleta managed to polish off Younes El Aynaoui in the French open this year, and El Aynaoui beat Lleyton in the Aussie open earlier in the year. Zabaleta also took Guillermo Coria, also from Argentina, to 5 sets before being beaten, and Coria was the bloke who beat Agassi. Good luck Scud.

have you not heard of the famous williams sisters ?
they originate from wanganui and learnt to play tennis by hitting stones at street lights with an old rubbish tin lid.

they moved to the US a couple of years ago after their dad struck a big trifecta at the wingatui races.

go you kiwi girls !

How come the sisters have big American accents??

Anyway, onto some positive talk, the scud, Scott Draper and Alicia Molik have all gone through to the next round at Wimbledon. Well done you aussies!!

Oh, and Wayne Arthurs has also gone through. He'll probably be lucky enough to take on Sebastian Grosjean next round.

Well done to the scud, he's advanced to the 3rd round with a straight sets victory over Cyril Saulnier 6-3, 6-2, 7-6. Played very well. His next match is against the 35 seed Radek Stepanek. The winner will most likely play Andre Agassi.
Wayne Arthurs went down to Sebastian Grosjean in 4 sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, and Scott Draper also went down to Radek Stepanek 7-6, 6-3, 6-1, so now the scud must take care of this bloke.
Onto our women, and Alicia Molik has gone through to the third round with a straight sets victory over 31 seed Elena Likhovtseva 6-3, 6-4. She is to play Justine Henin-Hardene, the Belgian French open winner. Good luck scud and Alicia!!

The scud has just won a huge match against Radek Stepanek, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 7-6. The match lasted about 3 and a half hours. Now he gets to face Agassi in the round of 16. Well done scud!! All the best. He can win this match, no doubt about it, if he plays the points well, and gets that big serve happening.

C'mon Scud! Go you good thing!

Unless you've been living under a rock, you HAVE TO HAVE head the good news. He prevailed in the most entertaining match of the tournament, defeating World No. 1 Andre Agassi in 5 sets.

Same here. Wimbledon seems to bring the best out of the Scud and he's made the Quarter Finals a million times.

Tonight he plays some German called Popp. Only vaguely know of him. The nation stops at 10:35pm to watch the almighty Scud in his valiant efforts to reach the Semi-Finals, where he probably plays Henman.

COME ON SCUD!!!

The scud has just defeated Germany's Alexander Popp in another 5 setter, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 8-6. What a comeback. He will now take on Sebastian Grosjean in the semi final, and the winner will play either Roger Federer or Andy Roddick in the final.

Grosjean should be an easier assignment than Henman. Sad there's no serve-volley players left though.

Roddick looks on fire at the moment; i don't think the Scud could beat him in the final. They both play the same sort of game but Roddicks first serve % is much higher.

Roddick can't volley for sh!t though, whereas Scud can. Hopefully Federer knocks out the arrogant American prick though.

The scud will definately have an easier assignment against Federer. I don't mind Roddick though, I don't think he's very arrogant. He was pretty modest after his win against Bjorkman last night.
