Witt is essentially a Premier League player who has been thrust into first grade by Brian Smith. All i'm saying is this. I would hate to lose a player like Zillman or Dobson because we cant offer them enough money when we have a player like Witt on our roster.

i don't wanna debate whether Witt is a good player or not. i don't really care to be honest. but the idea that we don't need to sign players because we already have good juniors is terrible. any team who uses that thinking will be looking down the barrell of failure. when a good player is on the market, you do what you can to buy him. to sum up:
"we don't need more players" = stupid.
"we don't need Witt" = might be true, i don't know.

we need quality players no doubt Kris man, but why buy quality when we havnt give out young blokes any chance to show their worth?
in this instant Carney hasnt had a fair crack at it, why waste money on someone when this bloke could be the man

If Smith cuts a player its a sign that he might actually be able to play.
Witt is a simmilar deal to when we were going to sign Bird. These guys are young, highly skilled and were dominating their age groups 18 months ago, yet people dont rate them because they havent been able to dominate in first grade within 20 games playing the hardest positions on the park.

I have a feeling Carney may be getting shoehorned into a position thats not his best just because we dont having any other options. Witt (or even Byrne / Ferris) would at least give us a option.

Elliot the genius and management adopted this policy last year of not signing players. And look where it got us. Top 4 to lucky to even make the 8.

but the key is not signing any idiot that has a rap on him
Like witt, if he were to be released, why should we show interest? He is no more proven then Carney, would be just as big a risk and for more!!
We dont need him

We need to start signing worth while players, Jason Smith is one of those, as is jerimine ale and Craig Frawley, the rest dont seem to be all that great buys

OK I've had a brainwave.

Lets say we do sign Witt. Why can't he or Carney be our long term option at 5/8? They've both played it for extended periods in reserves.

Then lose how much young talent like Jamie Saword because of it?
To me it just seems like if we continue the way were are going i.e signing anyone that will come, we are heading straight into parramatta territory

I'd take anyone with the potential to make us a better team next year.
exactly. i think some other people here have forgotten that buying players is a GOOD thing.

However, buying bad players and taking up our salary cap with them is a BAD thing.

the loss of Jamie Soward had nothing to do with our first grade cap.

nobody would doubt that buying a bad player is a bad thing, but you seem to be doubting whether buying a good player is a good thing, which is ludicrous. the point i'm making is, that buying good players will always pay dividends, regardless of who's in you juniors.
heading into parra territory? what's the other option, stay in canberra territory? and btw, parra recruited superbly this season.

parra recruitted supperbly? they brought 3 hookers, you only have 1 on the feild, at the most another one on the bench, they are making a huge mistake by trying to do a Raiders- Brad Drew and play a hooker at half, then they brought a bloke who cant catch and who is nothing without Giddley attack - Tahu

Morrison is a top buy thou

but there is no point IMO buying a good player while you've a got a man that can do the job just as good sitting in PL, you've gotta give the young blokes a decent crack at it before saying they wont make it

Look at parra, they've released or lost 100 players that they said wouldnt cut it or left due to lack of chances because Parra continue to buy "quality", they have gone on to much much better things, we have 3 or 4 of them ourselves.... we had a shocker year.... where were parra?

thats what i fear with too many buys we will become

I can't believe anyone thinks that signing Witt is a good idea...... when we know he is NOT the answer. He has failed to make first grade in a poorly performed team ans there is "talk" of him being released!!!

Sure, sign GOOD players from elsewhere.... but he doesn't qualify.

How can you not know how to use a specialist Half-Back
its simple. put him on the park and see him go

That's my point 69.

Smith waited 14 odd weeks to give him a run. By that stage N.Hindmarsh and Cayless were out so he was getting monstered.

His rookie year is a better guide he was awesome then.

you're kidding aren't you?? Tahu is the best outside back in the comp, I'd kill to have him at the Raiders. and if this is going to turn into a Witt debate, then i'll have my two bobs worth: he's a gun player with a dynamite kicking game - probably the one thing the Raiders have been most lacking over the past several years.
