Witt / Origin

Micheal Witt is in the emerging Qld state of origin side and in a short paragraph in the Telegraph today it says he maybe heir the half back posy.

What does everyone else think? I believe he still got a long road a head of him till he can become an origin player.

well im thinking the 2004 season or 2005 will be the season he gets the halfback spot as soon as he fine tunes his game

Unless the toads have massive injury crisis I don't see Witt being in the side at half back for at least another couple of years.
Maybe off the bench in 2005 if he has a great season this year

Hope he gets the job of QLD HB. It will mean he is playing good football and the team is winning.
That goes for other Eels players as well such a Vella for example.

I don't think Queensland will have much choice. Witt wouldn't be the least experienced player to play Origin if he's selected.

He's a fair way off from SOO, at the moment.

However for his age and ability, at this stage of his caree, it's not out of the question.

well he has a better chance under hagan than bennett

berrigan is a very ordinary player, and what would happen if he was injured? who else is there? it's not like they're going to bring alfie back again

he just has to concentrate on retaining his first grade spot at parra for now

Witt will be there because in his so far short career he's showed that he can play well under pressure or not u all remember da goals hes kicked us from sideline n in front EVEN ON HIS BUTT!! he will be in that queensland jersey. there is no doubt about it. because Hagan is a lot more fair. He wont pick all from broncos he'll look further then them. Theres no doubt bout Witt. Thorman will be halfback when Witt is away on Origin duty.

Interesting to see how much say Hagen has in the QLD side.

I think Berrigan is a better hooker, but we will see. if he doesnt get picked at half, and Witt does, fantastic, it will mean he is having an outstanding season. I would guess his other major threat at this stage is Scott Prince, if he can get an injury free run at the tigers.

i thought Hagen was the coach dont coaches get a bit of a say in who they pick because when Bennett was coach more half the broncos side were picked now i doubt selectors would pick it out of practically 1 team

i'd like to think that Witty coulb be picked, that'd be awesome.. but lets face it, at origin time he'll be what? 20 1/2 years old? leading an origin pack around the park (tallis, lockyer.....) would be a huge task for a 20yrold

although stranger things have happened, and i gave up pretending i could predict this game a long time ago

There were a hell of a lot of people that doubted a young bloke called Allan Langer could do the same thing when he was picked ahead of Mark Murray........ and he left the game as one of the best halfbacks to ever come ou of Queensland if not the best. It doesn't matter how young you are - only how confident you are. And confidence is one thing that Michael has plenty of. If he gets the job he'll do the job.

Witty will get there eventually. He is still only, what? 19-20 years old? & 03 was only his first year of 1st grade, he still has plenty to learn & improve on yet.
He has Berrigan & PJ in front of him at the moment.

It would be really great if Michael could break into SOO this year.

The experience that he would get at this stage of his career can only be good for Parramatta.

And if we are serious about getting the premiership, we need a top line #7.
