19 year old Michael Witt has taken out the 2003 Eric Grothe Rookie of the Year Award.

Witt, who joined the Club in 2001 from the Newtown Lions in Toowoomba, played in both the SG Ball Cup and Jersey Flegg Cup competitions in 2001 and 2002, before moving to Premier League in 2003. He made his First Grade debut in the Round 8 match against the Sydney Roosters at Parramatta Stadium.

Michael played for the Queensland Under 15’s in 1999, and the Under 16’s in 2000.

In 2003 he was selected for the New South Wales Under 19’s team but withdrew from the match due to a shoulder injury.

He recently re-signed with the Parramatta Eels for a further 4 years.

The Rookie of the Year Award was first presented in 1974 with Geoff Gerard the inaugural winner. Since then, other Rookies of the Year have included Eric Grothe, Neville Glover, and Brett Kenny, along with players from the current squad including Nathan Hindmarsh, Luke Burt and Ashley Graham.

Congrats Witty

Michael Witt - handy player.

I remember him winning us three consecutive games at the death with sideline conversions in 2003.
Michael Witt, stolen by Manly. Declared a momentous signing from right under our noses by Peter Peters. Yeah nah you fat f**ker. Jesus Peter Peters has been a thorn in our side for 50 years. For a guy who used to play for the eels, he hates us sooooo bad.

Steve was a better all rounder at Newcastle IIRC.

I swear their nicknames were f**kwit and halfwit in the eels juniors.

Steve was better in the lower grades - Michael had a better First Grade career.
