Wolfgang Van Halen to replace Mike Anthony...in Van Halen (possible Roth return)

Had read earlier that rumours are flying that David Lee Roth will return to Van Halen for a tour much like the failed tour with Sammy Hager 2 years ago. As Mike Anthony has become mates with Sammy over the years and still plays with him and the tension between eddie and mike was obvious in interviews (Ed calls him a cat and other things) people wondered if he would rejoin the band for the tour.

Well according to this article Eddies son Wolfgang will play bass in the band!

EDDIE VAN HALEN's Son WOLFGANG Named New VAN HALEN Bassist - Nov. 2, 2006 TMZ.com reports that VAN HALEN has officially hired 15-year-old Wolfgang Van Halen — the son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen and estranged wife Valerie Bertinelli, and nephew of drummer Alex Van Halen — as the new bassist for the band.

Wolfgang replaces longtime bassist Michael Anthony, who left the band earlier this year. VAN HALEN spokesperson Janie Liszewski tells TMZ.com that Wolfgang, known as "Wolfie," has already joined his dad and uncle for rehearsals in the studio. Wolfie played dates with his father during the band's 2004 tour, and the song "316" on 1991's "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" was named for Wolfie's birth date that same year.

According to TMZ.com, the band is still without a lead singer, despite rumors that David Lee Roth might rejoin.

As much as I love Van Halen I think they should either tell ed to pull his head in and stop destroying the band or just hang up the boots as Van Halen and launch a solo or new band. Dont become like Guns N Roses where a great bands name is ruined by the release and tours of a different band.

They're my favourite band of all time but they've gone nuts in recent years and having read extensively into it, it seems Eddie is the problem. Alex too but mainly Eddie because I think Alex feels bad about how Sammy was punted.

It's probably as good thing for Mike to leave anyway, he can have fun again.

I agree about the name too. Same with Queen etc. Don't ruin an important name in the history of music.

HevyDevy they are one of my all time fav's aswell and like you I read into it a lot not believing my childhood guitar hero could be the problem......but he is, he has become a drunk and a lunatic, have you heard the interviews with Howard stern??

Oh well I guess I can live in hope that maybe they will stagger down to Aus one year and ill get one more glimpse of the once great man.

It's a shame they're only tour was with Cherone. I loved Extreme but he didn't work with Van Halen.

To be honest, one of the best shows I've ever seen was when Sammy toured solo just after splitting with Van Halen on the Marching to Mars tour. Great voice.

Wolfgang from all reports is an absolute gun on the guitar, so that doesn't bother me.

Mike Anthony has been on the outer for years, hell, Eddie was looking at replacing him all the way back to as early as 94, 95. I think it's more that Eddie wants a change with his line up and not he's content.

If Anthony has formed an alliance with Sammy then could you blame Eddie?, he is cat, sorry.

As for Howard Stern?, well lket's just say Howard hates Van Halen because he's a good friend of David Lee Roths, and naturally has a grind for the guys because of all the fighting between the VH's and Roth. Although it was Dave that did leave, so i can't understand why Stern keeps going after them.

Some of his comments on the VH's are priceless

David Lee Roth is there only chance of re establishing themselves, and even that i doubt will work, but what other option do they have?, they aren't getting any younger, although Eddie's guitar is timeless.

You apparently havent heard the interview im talking about, Stern did not 'go after them' he actually interviewed Eddie on his show and it was Eddie who went after Mike.

You can hear it when he talks (in a few different interviews) he is a drunk and his ego is out of control.

There was no negativety towards Ed or VH from Stern, just Ed's ramblings.

As for Mike, Sammy kept playing while VH did nothing, so Mike played with him. They are aloud to be friends...it isnt high school in 90210.

Also, listen to interviews with sammy aswell to get 2 sides, it is clear to me Ed is the problem with VH breaking up.

One more thing, anyone heard his new guitar work on the porno he made at his house? Song is called Catherine, tonnes of sustain and nothing spectacular but some new eddy and we dont get much of that these days!

Hmm, no i didn't, but that surprises me, unless they have hugged and made up, for years Howard gave it to Eddie, probably Dave and Eddie are talking again.

As for his tone and alcohol...I've heard that apart from smoking 2 pack of Malboros a day he's a heavy drinker, really needs to clean himself up.

There is nothing wrong with being friends with a bloke, but to go and start playing live with him, espically with Eddie dislikeing the bloke obviously it's going to create problems.
