What does everyone think when he becomes RLIF CEO?

I know his role with the RFL was debatable but just wondering what people thought about his appointment to the RLIF

It'll be a disaster...he has absolutely no idea how to grow the game..

The game in England has shrunk to dangerously low levels, there minimal academy development,no reserve grade which has had a drastic knock on effect for junior amateur clubs cos we've severely restricted the development pathways....and don't get me started on the TV money and Bradford bulls!! Someone is lucky they haven't been locked up!

As for international RL...the reason we aren't having a 8team confederation cup in 2019 is because fat Nigel wanted GB (England in different shirts) to tour instead..

Nigel wood is the Donald trump of RL..

Jobs for the boys! There has been some wins in UK with Jnr Govt funding and increased funding to clubs but the game hasn't grown anything like it needs to. Having said that it is a parochial M62 sport at a professional level with very limited corporate appeal. I'm not sure how you tackle those issues or if any CEO will be able to, especially when clubs are incapable of running themselves at a break even or attracting new customers.

RUGBY LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION APPOINTS NIGEL WOOD AS CEO

The Rugby League International Federation has appointed RFL and Super League CEO Nigel Wood to be its new Chief Executive. The unanimous decision was taken by the RLIF Board following the successful staging of the Rugby League Men’s and Women’s World Cups in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Wood will take up the office later in the year and will follow inaugural CEO David Collier OBE into the role. He will also stand down as RLIF Chairman as a consequence. The RLIF board will consider nominations for its next Chair in February 2018.

RLIF Deputy Chairman John Grant said “We are delighted to have reached an agreement with Nigel to take over as the executive lead for the RLIF at this time. Nigel is a 10 year CEO with a proven track record as a Rugby League Administrator of the highest standard, is respected on both sides of the world, has an intimate understanding of the complex relationship between domestic and international rugby league, and provides a fast start in the role at a time when capitalising on the momentum created by the 2017 World Cups is critical."

John Grant added “The RLIF board determined that the board’s Nominations Committee from Australia, New Zealand and Europe should in the first instance undertake a rigorous process with Nigel as its internal candidate to confirm his willingness and suitability to take the role. Failing this, it was then to undertake an external process. The Committee was swayed not only by Nigel’s clear experience but also by his deep knowledge and sincere passion for international rugby league. Its recommendation that he was the right person to take the international game forward at the very exciting but challenging time was adopted unanimously by the full board”

Senior Director and member of the Nominations Committee, John Bishop from NZRL, said “I have worked with Nigel for two World Cup cycles now and numerous international Tournaments and have seen first-hand his endeavours for the international game. The next few years are vital for international rugby league and the Board believe Nigel is undoubtedly the right person to be bring focus and energy to our plans.”

Nigel Wood said “I feel honoured and humbled to be asked to serve the RLIF as CEO for the next phase of its development. International Rugby League is a wonderful and essential aspect of our sport as the images, testimonials and emotions of the recent World Cups have once again demonstrated. I believe these are exciting times as more and more people recognise the role of international rugby league has in developing the whole sport. New countries and investors are attracted to our sport and I look forward to working with all parties, clubs and other key stakeholders to ensure that we give players, supporters and commercial and broadcast partners the most compelling international calendar that we possibly can.”

Lets hope the fat man doesnt screw up the gains of the last 5 years.

Can someone re-post the article where he got that obscene pay rise at the expense of the game? We need a peasant revolt here.

The RLIF use to be a lot worse, when Colin Love was in power he did absolutely nothing for the game, plus the RLIF had every member who was aligned to another League organisation which was a massive conflict of interest.

I don't know what Nigel will do, time will tell I suppose, but at least it won't be like the old days where the RLIF was close to useless

Richard Lewis did a fantastic job and would have done a fantastic job as head of the rlif but the Aussie's & kiwis blocked the move and within 6months he'd washed his hands of RL completely and moved to sport England instead..

Ralph rimmer is in temporary charge but he's a RFL man, like Nigel wood he moves around within the RFL collecting a salary..

Sally Bolton seems to be top of most, and my,list...but apparently she doesn't want it..

Roger draper must be in with a good shout, ex player,ex sport England executive,ex warrington CEO,current SL general manager iirc

Mark Evans, ex Melbourne CEO,currently at a football club here, can't remember who,has been mentioned..

Dave Smith,ex nrl boss, even got a cheeky shout out..

In order for Nigel to do a worse job than the current administration he would have to be malicious and competent.

Otherwise, stop the whining. It’s not like RLIF was the elite organization of RL best and brightest. This isn’t a huge imrpovement.
